“What condition?” I asked.
“Marry me, and you’ll do as I say.” He turned, his dark eyes fixed on me. “Those little tricks
you use on the Sterlings won’t work with me. I need an absolutely obedient wife. Can you
do that?”
I met his gaze fearlessly. “As long as it helps me escape them, I’ll do anything.”
“Good.”
The car drove into the heavily guarded private estate.
This place didn’t look like a hospice; it looked more like a high–tech research facility.
Hunter led me into a laboratory, filled with precise instruments.
A young man in a white lab coat greeted us. “Mr. Thorne, you’re back.”
“This is Dr. Miles, my personal physician.”
The next day, I returned to the Sterling family home.
My father and Julian were waiting for me in the living room, their faces grim.
“Where were you last night?” my father demanded sharply.
“I went to see my fiancé,” I answered calmly.
“You!” My father slammed his hand on the table, enraged.
Julian quickly tried to calm him. “Mr. Sterling, please don’t get angry. It’s not worth harming your health. Aurora is just confused right now.”
<
He turned to me, his voice returning to its usual gentle tone.
“Aurora, I know you’re still angry with us. But your sister’s condition is really bad, she needs you. Let’s not think about those unhappy things for now, okay? After her surgery is done, I… I’ll marry you and take you away from here.”
He looked at me with such deep affection, as if I were the love of his life.
Chloe came downstairs. Seeing me, her eyes immediately welled up.
“Sister, you’re back… I was so worried about you…”
As she spoke, she suddenly clutched her chest and coughed violently, a trace of fresh blood escaping from the corner of her lips.
“Chloe!” Julian’s face turned pale, and he rushed to support her.
My father also panicked. “Quick! Get her to the hospital!”
Amidst the chaos, I stood still, watching coldly.

At the hospital, Chloe was rushed into the emergency room.
In the hallway, my father, Robert Sterling, paced anxiously back and forth.
Julian walked over, his face solemn. “Mr. Sterling, Chloe’s condition is very critical. She needs an immediate bone marrow transplant. But before that, she must first undergo a large–dose blood exchange, otherwise her body won’t be able to withstand the surgery.”
My father’s gaze immediately fell on me.
“Aurora, your sister needs your blood.”
Every single time Chloe had any issue, the first thing they thought of was to extract from
- me.
“Alright.” I nodded.
