Damon’s blood ran cold.
…What did you say?”
The assistant nodded solemnly. “The City Hall already sent the divorce certificate to the old address.”
He staggered backward, pale and breathless.
“Divorced? That’s impossible. When did I ever…” He trailed off, mind racing.
“The address… which address?”
“The old house.”
Without wasting another second, he tore out the door and rushed to find the certificate himself. He thought it had to be fake. A prank. A setup.
But when he took it to the City Hall for verification, the seal was official. The divorce was real.
Damon stood outside the Bureau, unable to steady his legs.
It was over.
“She knew…” he murmured, almost in a daze. “She knew about the old house. Does that mean… she knew everything I kept from her all this time?”
Behind him, his assistant sighed quietly.
“I warned you, Mr. Damon. There’s no such thing as a secret that can stay hidden forever especially not from someone who once loved you that deeply. You were married for three years.” “You think you’re a great actor,” the assistant muttered, “but maybe Miss Elena already saw through you long ago…”
“Shut up!”
Damon exploded, his voice thunderous. The assistant flinched, recoiling like a frightened turtle and wisely said no more.
Five minutes later, the same assistant knocked timidly on the office door.
“Mr. Damon, this just came in, it’s a wedding invitation from Mr. Leo. Would you like to see it?” Damon didn’t even glance at it. He waved it away with irritation, eyes glued to his phone.
“I don’t have time for that crap. Leave it.”
He was too busy burning through his contacts, pulling every string he had to find me. Ironically, it he had bothered to open the envelope, he would have seen the bride’s name clearly printed in gold: Elena.
Meanwhile, as Damon’s frustration mounted, Tiffany entered his office, cradling a fruit baske like a prop in a play.
“Damon, please don’t blame Half Summer. I’m sure she didn’t mean to hurt you. She was just jealous seeing us together. Women are like that…”
She leaned toward him, her voice soft and cloying. “The baby’s kicking again. Want to feel it?”
But Damon wasn’t even listening.

His eyes were locked on the surveillance footage on his computer screen. Suddenly, he sat up straight.
“I found it.”
Tiffany blinked. “Found what?”
She tried to peek at the monitor, but he shoved her aside, expression sharp.
“Tiffany, I don’t have time right now. I tracked Elena through traffic cams. She passed thi intersection earlier today, I’m going to find her.”
He stood and grabbed his coat. “Go home and rest. I’ll check on you later.”
With that, he rushed out, leaving Tiffany frozen in place. Her hand instinctively clutched her belly her eyes dark with resentment as she stared at the closing door.
At the surveillance center, Damon questioned the staff urgently.
“Where did she go after that intersection?”
The technician rewound the footage and pointed. “This road leads straight to the airport.”
He paused, squinting at the screen. “I think I remember that girl…. she mentioned something about going to Bali.”
Bali.
Damon finally exhaled. Relief washed over him like cold water.
A vacation. Just a vacation. At least she wasn’t running away from him entirely… right?
Still, something didn’t sit right.
If it was just a trip, why had she blocked him?
Back home, Damon instructed the private investigator to keep digging. “I want her exact location. The moment you find something, anything, call me.”
He refused to believe she could just vanish into thin air. As he scrolled through flight schedule: to Bali, his phone buzzed. It was Leo.
“Hey bro! Come to Bali for my wedding!”
Damon blinked. Bali again? He masked his surprise with a forced laugh.
“You really kept this quiet. When did you even get a girlfriend?”
Leo laughed proudly on the other end. “I’ve been chasing her for years. Finally got my shot. Of course I’m moving fast.”
“The wedding’s the day after tomorrow. Be there.”
Damon chuckled. “Sure, sure. I’ll come.”
After hanging up, Leo looked at me with mischief dancing in his eyes.
“Just imagining Damon showing up in Bali and seeing who the bride is… I can’t wait to see the
look on his face.”
I sighed. “You’re more devious than I thought.”
Leo raised an eyebrow in protest.
“Elena, how is that devious? That’s justice.”

“He humiliated you, trampled your dignity, someone had to stand up for you.”
His fists clenched involuntarily at the memory.
“I haven’t forgotten how he talked about you behind your back… all those times in the private rooms of bars, like you were nothing. I wanted to knock his teeth out so badly. But I had to keep calm… for the sake of the mission.”
