Looking at my family’s heartbroken expressions, I seemed to realize how terrible the things I’d done were.
No wonder every time I thought I was being abused, Arthur always managed to escape the police. He never hit me!
Everything was just in my imagination.
I learned that they had traveled far and wide to seek treatment from famous doctors to cure my illness and
endured tremendous pressure for me. At that moment, I was overwhelmed by guilt and emotion, and my tears flowed freely.
I stumbled over and hugged Arthur and Matilda with all my strength, wanting to pour all my gratitude and love into that embrace.
Then, I agreed to be hospitalized for treatment.
Actually, the days in the hospital weren’t as tough as I’d imagined.
I took my medicine on time every day. When I had free time, I’d play badminton, play chess, snack, watch TV, and chat with other patients. My life was pretty leisurely.
I knew that as long as I took my medicine on time, I’d get a chance at a new life.

To let me concentrate on my treatment, Arthur, Matilda, David, and Emily did not come to disturb me anymore. They said they’d celebrate with me on the day I was discharged and told me to just focus on the treatment.
However, a year later, I ran into Dylan at the psychiatric hospital.
He was really insane, covered in injuries. I heard that he was sent here by his family.
But I observed him for a long time, and there was no wound on his head.
Wasn’t he supposed to have been injured by me before?
I stared at his handsome face, and the doubts in my heart
wouldn’t subside.
Late at night, Dylan sneaked into my ward in the dark.
Just as I was about to scream for help, he covered my mouth and whispered, “Shh! Don’t make a sound. If you yell, we’re both dead.”
I pulled his hand down and looked up at him. “You’re not crazy? Then why are you pretending to be sick and coming here?”
Dylan said, “To find you, of course. I heard you were sent to the hospital. Arthur and Matilda are really good at pretending. But I’ve got evidence of their crimes. Don’t worry. The bad guys will be brought to justice!”

It turned out that Dylan was an undercover agent. He swore that when he proposed to me, he truly loved me. But the mission was tough, and he had to finish it before he could get back together with me.
Dylan continued, “Arthur and Matilda aren’t your biological parents. Over the years, they’ve been kidnapping young girls and bringing them home to make provocative videos and sell them online. You’re the prettiest one among them. A rich tycoon had his eye on you and was willing to pay a lot of money for you. But you never listened to them, so they beat you mercilessly.
“Emily isn’t your biological sister either, and she’s one of tens of thousands of victims. It was because she called the police that I went to your house to investigate the truth. Your adoptive parents kept telling everyone you had schizophrenia and even showed them Photoshopped videos to avoid being caught by the police. But this time, they can’t escape anymore!
“You can’t remember things about us because your adoptive parents gave you electric shock therapy on your brain. They erased most of your memories. Actually, you’ve only had me as an ex–husband from the start. You never dated four other men.
That was all a lie that they told you to brainwash you. I’ve been looking for you for a long time, but because they kept moving, I could never find you.”
Dylan took me out overnight, and I became one of the witnesses to testify against Arthur and Matilda’s crimes.
The police found out that all the female patients at the

psychiatric hospital were women they’d kidnapped, and there were over ten thousand videos for sale.
Because they had killed people, Arthur, Matilda, and over a dozen other gang members were caught and sentenced to death.
When I went back to my hometown to look for my biological parents, I found out that they’d died in a car accident while looking for me the year I was kidnapped.
I came back to the place where I lived in a daze. Dylan was there, dressed in a neat suit, holding a diamond ring and a bouquet of flowers.
Seeing me, he gently took my hand. “Arabella, you’ve suffered so much in the past. For the rest of my life, I’ll always be by your side, take care of you, and love you. Will you remarry me?”
I wiped away my tears and smiled, running over to hug his
waist.
I do.
The End.
