I would just have to bear with it–for a little while. I’d always been easy to calm down. And lately, I’d been more understanding than ever. He figured, if he just made a bit of effort, said the right things, I would forgive him–like I always had.
We had ten years together. That had to count for something.
Soon, word spread like wildfire: the CEO of Mackey Corp was planning another wedding.
The news left everyone stunned.
Aaron’s closest friends couldn’t believe it either. That he’d fallen head over heels for a
woman like Nancy–a nightclub dancer–was beyond anything they imagined.
And when they found out he’d actually signed divorce papers and was already planning the ceremony? They figured the guy had officially lost it. After all, Aaron had spent a full decade chasing me. Still, they hesitated only a moment before dropping a message in the group chat.
[Aaron, rumor has it you’re planning a wedding with that dancer. Is that true?]
Aaron replied quickly:
[Yeah.]
That one word sent the group into meltdown.
Most of them had assumed he was just putting on a show for Nancy. Everyone in their circle had a side piece–or three. The fact Aaron had waited ten years before stepping out was almost saint–like by their standards.
But of all people, he picks her?
Sure, maybe at first it was just lust. But this? He was actually going through with it? Messages poured in one after another.
[You’re seriously doing this? After all the years you spent chasing Cassidy? You’re really ready to let her go?]
[Look man, we’re not trying to judge, but this whole thing feels off. You went through hell to win Cassidy over. We just don’t want you to wake up one day and regret it.]
[And Nancy’s background… once Mackey Corp makes this public, the press is going to have a field day.]
[Does Cassidy even know you’re doing this? She actually agreed to the divorce?]
Aaron stared at his phone, jaw tight. His fingers clenched into a fist before he began typing, one message after another.
[It’s complicated.]
[Nancy’s dad is dying. His only wish is to see her married before he goes. If I hadn’t stepped in, she might’ve married some loser. And she’s carrying my child. I can’t sit back and let my kid call someone else ‘dad.‘]

[She also saved my life once. I owe her. This is the least I can do.]
As for Cassidy–I told her everything. The divorce was just for show, Nothing’s been filed, This wedding? It’s all for Nancy’s father’s sake. Cassidy is still my wife.]
[She understands. Once it’s over, I’ll make it up to her.]
He was writing it for them to understand, but also for himself–make him less guilty,
Since the day he walked away carrying Nancy in his arms, I hadn’t called once. It had been three days.
He couldn’t get me out of his head–that hollow look on my face as he left.
This was all temporary, he told himself. I loved him too much to walk away over something like this. And it’s not like he hadn’t explained everything. I’d always been so patient with
him.
We’d been together ten years. That wasn’t something you threw away because of a bump in the road.
Honestly, he didn’t think I had the right to be angry. He’d waited a whole decade before ever letting another woman into his life–couldn’t say the same for most guys in their circle. Because most of them kept women around for more.
