Jayden was stunned when Ellana ruffled his hair, then realized she had overheard their entire conversation. The next second, he swatted her frand th fixing his hair as he muttered awkwardly, “Don’t mess with my hair I might not grow taller.”
Eliana smiled, looking even gentler. “Got it, won’t do it again.”
Jayden’s ears reddened at her smile, and he immediately dashed downstairs.
Barbara asked, “You really didn’t push Alice off the cliff?”
Eliana was too exhausted to explain anymore and simply shook her head.
Barbara curled her lip and blurted unexpectedly, “Coward. I despise you.”
It was as if Eliana had missed a good opportunity. Shortly after, Barbara left too.
The commotion actually lifted Eliana’s gloomy mood a bit. She went back to her room, picked up her phone, and hesitated over whether to call Theodore about Margaret.
Later that evening, when Theodore returned to the hospital, he found Daniel slumped over, holding his head wearily.
Anthony, who was keeping Daniel company, deliberately said with hostility, “Theodore, it’s all your fault Grandma hasn’t woken up yet.”
Theodore narrowed his eyes, ignoring him, and said to Daniel, “Grandpa, let me take you home to rest first. I’ll have someone keep watch here 24/7.”
Daniel waved him off, though, staring longingly at the intensive care unit.
Anthony said, “Theodore, Grandpa just wants to stay with Grandma now. If you’re busy, I’m happy to o stay here with him the whole time.”
Theodore knew perfectly well that Anthony was seizing the chance to compete for Daniel’s favor.
Suddenly, Daniel turned to Anthony and said, “Anthony, you’ve kept me company long enough. Go home and rest.”
“Grandpa…” Anthony frowned. He thought, “After all this, does Grandpa still only value Theodore?”
Daniel said, “Theo, you stay. After all, Grandma fell into a coma again because of your stubbornness.”
Hearing Daniel blame Theodore, most of Anthony’s resentment faded. Then he obediently got up and left.
When only Daniel and Theodore were left in the corridor, Theodore suddenly knelt before Daniel. Daniel exclaimed in surprise, “What are you doing? Get up! I was just putting on an act for Anthony.”
The reason he had blamed Theodore was just to send Anthony away and talk to Theodore alone.
Theodore kept his eyes down and said calmly, “Grandpa, I’m acting too. There are surveillance cameras here–just listen to me.”
At this, Daniel froze for a moment, then sat up straight with dignity. “Go on.”
“I had the video I copied from the surveillance room today checked by technicians,” Theodore said, “and they found it had been edited.”
Daniel’s breath caught. “Continue.”
Theodore continued, “Also, they found an anomaly.”
“What anomaly?” Daniel asked sharply,

Theodore; said, “Before Grandma missed her step and fell down the stairs, she looked as if something had scared her, so her hot showed
He continued. “But there was no one else in the video except Grandma. Don’t you find that strange? She couldn’t have seen a ghost, right”
Daniel couldn’t help frowning in thought.
Theodore went on, “Moreover, logically speaking, Grandma had already climbed the last step. Why would she take a step back for no reason
Hearing this, Daniel asked in surprise, “So you suspect someone deliberately harmed Margaret?”
Theodore nodded. “And it’s likely Anthony and Alice.”
Daniel clenched his fists. “Tell me your reasoning.”
Theodore said gravely, “Maybe Grandma discovered their secret.”
Meanwhile, in the surveillance room, Anthony was staring at the monitor. Seeing Theodore kneeling and being scolded by Daniel, he couldn’t help laughing.
After being “chased out of the hospital” by Daniel, Theodore got into Elliot’s car parked nearby. “Back to Russell Manor,” he said.
“Yes, Mr. Russell,” Elliot replied.
On the way, Theodore’s phone rang. He picked it up and saw it was Eliana calling, a faint smile crossing his stern face. After a day, Eliana finally remembered to contact him. He answered, “Theodore speaking.”
“Mr. Russell, how’s Margaret doing?” Eliana asked.
Theodore said, “Not good. She woke up briefly and called your name.”
Eliana said glumly, “She must still be mad at me.”
Theodore objected, “From her tone, it didn’t sound like it.”
“Come on, stop comforting me,” Eliana said. Remembering Margaret’s coldness toward her, she asked, “By the way, did you return the heirloom emerald necklace to Daniel?”
At this, Theodore frowned. “You’re that eager for me to return the heirloom emerald necklace to Grandpa?”
“I…” Eliana was at a loss for words.
After a long silence, Theodore rubbed his temples and said, “We’ll talk when I get back. Take care of yourself while I’m away.” Afraid she might say something else to anger him, Theodore hung up immediately after.
Eliana slowly put down her phone, feeling dazed. Theodore had changed completely since he left—instead of blaming her, he told her to take care.
A week later, Theodore returned to Covenhill at night, accompanied by Anthony and Alice.
Eliana felt uncomfortable seeing Alice now, so she turned away and focused on Theodore. “Has Margaret woken up?”
Theodore said, “I just got a call from the doctor–Grandma woke up. Grandpa is rushing from Russell Manor to see her now. We might soon find out why she fell down the stairs that day.”
Hearing this, Eliana exclaimed happily, “That’s great.”

Meanwhile in Amberhold, a man dressed as a doctor sneaked into the intensive care unit while the bodyguards outside were changing safe, sta quickly approached Margaret’s bed, pulled off het oxygen mask, and tried to smother her with a pillow
Just then, several bodyguards burst in, aimed their guns at him, and shouted, “Freeze. You’re surrounded.”
The man disguised as a doctor was gradually forced into a corner by the bodyguards. Then he caught a glimpse of the nearby window out of the corner of his eye, gritted his teeth, and jumped out.
“Dammit,” the bodyguards cursed, rushing to the window. It was the 18th floor–there was no way the killer could have survived.
