Venus POV
Queen Ketari seemed like she was no more than twenty–five years old. She didn’t look like a conventional witch I had in mind, but a modern one with dark vibes mingled with a hint of humor and sass.
The Gothic style inspired her dress. She wore a black leather pants and a jacket with silver jewelry featuring a pentacle. Her vintage bob cut hair framed her oval face. A snake tattoo rose from the collar of her jacket, which slithered all the way to the right of her face, ending with the snake’s jaw framing her eye. Pentacle tattoos were inked on the inside of her wrist, which indicated that she belonged to the Pentacle coven.
“This is my daughter–in–law, Venus,” said Alpha Martin, snapping me out of my stupid admiration of the queen.
“Hi!” I breathed.
“And that is my son, Aaron,” he introduced.
Aaron nodded ever so slightly to her as he looked at his father with confusion.
“Hi,” Ketari said with a charming smile, her dark eyes assessing me.
As I sat, Aaron made sure that he sat next to me as if trying to protect me from her. We all stayed away from witches, not liking their powers. And we had the queen of witches amongst us. Her power was oozing out of her.
“I can smell magic here,” she said, narrowing her eyes.
This was what I was hoping for. My breath lodged in my throat. “Queen Ketari, thanks so much for coming to meet us,” I said. I never thought she would come all the way to meet us, but it was really sweet of her.
She waved her hand in dismissal. “It’s fine. What do you want to know?” she asked, glancing at Aaron and coming straight to the point.
I looked at Alpha Martin, who nodded in encouragement. Taking a ragged breath in, I said, “There is a presence of love potion in our pack. Now we know that such a love potion can only be created by a witch, and because of the treaty, witches are not allowed to mingle with the rest of Lore’s creatures.” I wrung my hands in my lap. “So I was wondering-”
She chuckled. “I know what you want to ask, Venus. Yes, there’s a coven called infinity, that went rogue two years ago. They were into black magic, which is prohibited in my kingdom. I warned them, but they fled and have stayed under the radar for a long time.”
Blood drained from my face. “Is it possible that they are in our pack?”
She shook her head. “Nope! I would have sensed them if they were here. But I can smell their magic in this pack.”
“In this pack?” Alpha Martin rasped. He looked at Aaron and me and then back at Ketari as his face turned white.
Ketari shrugged. “It is a powerful black magic.”
“We found a witch circle outside the pack’s territory in the forest,” I informed her. “My father went missing, and we found him a few miles away from that circle. He is still disoriented.” Goosebumps lined my skin, thinking that he was the target of a witch’s spell.
“Yes, I can smell a lot of magic in this house,” Ketari sighed. “In fact, when I was coming here, I saw that witch circle. It is prohibited to cast spells like that. It is black magic to put a person under your control. So I guess someone was trying to gain control of your father.”
I gasped, slapping my mouth with my hand. Aaron clutched my hand tightly, his body tense.
Ketari looked at Aaron warily. “Magic is sticking to your body as well, Aaron. Suggest you take a bath this instant to remove any trace of it.” She lifted her hand, closed her hand in a fist, chanted a spell and when she opened it, there was a tiny bottle of green liquid in her hand. “Put this in the tub with soap.”

Chapter 48
Danny slammed my mom to the wall, holding her throat. She shrieked. I rushed to her, but he backhanded me and I fell to the ground with a scream. He arrived just ten minutes ago, seething with anger.
“I asked you to do one fucking thing, Gaia,” he hissed, tightening his grip around her throat. She choked, coughed, and her eyes turned red as tears rolled out. “All you had to do was get Patrick under your control!”
“I did everything I could,” mom whispered. “Please, Danny!”
He struck her, then banged her head against the wall. She screamed, pain lancing through her. “Theri where the fuck is he? That spell has cost me twenty thousand dollars! That bloody witch is on my head. She wants her money. We need Patrick to stay in our control to finance our mission. You just fucked it all up. How did Martin come to know that he was missing?”
“I don’t know,” mom cried. “But I’ll get him here. I promise. Please give me a day. I’ll also get the money.”
He shoved mom to the floor and snarled, “If you don’t get him, I’ll have to kill you, because then you will be of no use!”
My body trembled when his gaze landed on me. “And you!” he came to sit next to me. I scrambled away, but he grabbed my hair in his fist and yanked my head back. “You had one fucking mission in your disgusting life. To seduce Aaron. Yet, that bastard is married to Venus.”
“Father…” I murmured.
He yanked my head back further, his lips peeling back. “Your mission was more important than Gaia’s. With Aaron in our control, we could easily infiltrate our people here and take over the wealthiest pack. But you have disappointed me!” He took out the love potion from his pant’s pocket, which I used as eye drops.
“No father, no,” I squeaked. “I already have it in my eyes. This potion has side effects!”
He didn’t listen to me. I struggled from his grasp, but he straddled me and dropped three drops each in my eyes. A burning pain lashed in my eyes, causing me to scream. He got up, thrust the bottle in my hand. “This will have thrice the effect. Now go to Aaron and get him under your control. Foxes are getting restless.” Saying that, he turned to mom, kicked her in the belly and stormed out of the door, disappearing in the night’s darkness.
Yes, we were foxes. But our scents were covered in spells. That was the reason the wolf shifters couldn’t recognize us. Foxes were less superior to the wolves. Their healing capabilities were far less. That was one of the main reasons my hand didn’t heal fast. And that was why, whenever Aaron asked me to shift, I would make one or the other excuse not to.
Danny was my father, and my mom was his chosen mate. My father had ambitions he had grilled into me and my mother. Right from an early age, he told me what his agenda was, and that’s how he groomed me. Aaron was my target all my life. I had so much information about him I knew what his friend’s cat liked to eat for dinner. Nathan was Plan B, but the bastard had found his mate.
