Chapter 139
Chapter 139
The bodyguard said, “Mr. Russell, you were right. Someone really attacked Margaret at the hospital tonight”
Standing by the French window and listening to the bodyguard’s report, Theodore sneered. He had only spread a false rumor that Margaret had woken up, and Anthony was steady desperate enough to try killing her.
The bodyguard added, “Mr. Russell, there’s another thing”
Theodorn asked, “What?”
“The killer committed suicide before we could catch him,” the bodyguard replied.
Though Theodore felt regretful, he wasn’t surprised. Anthony had brainwashed his men into dying rather than exposing him. However, he couldn’t let Anthony continue his recklessness
Just then, he heard Eliana murmur from behind.
He looked back at Eliana sleeping soundly in bed, overcome with quilt. He deeply regretted doubting her.
On the other side, unable to wait for his subordinate’s reply, Anthony paced restlessly in his room. Seeing his anxiety, Alice didn’t dare disturb him and started scrolling through her phone instead.
Suddenly, she saw a news article. After a few seconds of shock, she hurried to tell Anthony, “Anthony, come here! Something happened at the hospital where Margaret is.”
Thinking the mission had succeeded, Anthony rushed over eagerly, only to see the news report–a man had jumped to his death from a key hospital in Amberhold early that morning, accompanied by a blurred photo.
Despite the mosaic, Anthony recognized the man as his subordinate. He collapsed into a chair, finally realizing he’d been tricked.
From Theodore kneeling before Daniel to claiming Margaret had woken up–all of it was a ploy to lull Anthony into revealing his hand.
Alice asked in panic, “What do we do now? Theodore will definitely suspect us”
“He’s suspected us all along, or he wouldn’t have set this trap,” Anthony gritted his teeth, then suddenly looked at Alice.
He said, “But now that the killer is dead, even if Theodore suspects me of what happened to Grandma, he has no proof. As long as Grandma doesn’t wake up and you keep your mouth shut, we’ll be fine. Got it?”
With Christmas over, the endless snow in Covenhill finally stopped. Easter arrived, and flowers in the courtyard began to bloom, bringing some vitality to the long–dreary Russell family.
One day, a message popped up in Theodore’s group chat. Friend A: (Theo, stop cooping up at home all day. It’s spring–wanna go horseback riding?
Thinking he’d failed to spend a happy Christmas with Eliana, Theodore casually asked, “Mrs. Russell, would you like to go horseback riding!
Ellana, having been added to the group by him, faturally saw the message too.
Noticing her hesitation, Theodore teased with a smile, “If we don’t go, they’ll assume I’m stuck at home… with you.”
Eliana thought those men were ridiculous, but since she’d be returning to work in a few days, a relaxing outing seemed good, so she agreed.
But when she changed into a spring–style dress and a pastoral hat, ready to go out, Theodore pushed her back to the closet

“Change,” he said.
“Why?” Ellana spun around in front of him instinctively. “Doesn’t this look good?”
She looked too young and beautiful in the dress, making Theodore, several years older than her, little
“Have you ever seen anyone go horseback riding in a dress?” he said.
“Don’t they have professional riding gear and protective equipment there?” she asked.
She remembered one summer vacation as a child when Hudson took her and Hannah to learn horseback riding But because she was withdrawn then, she hadn’t even touched a horse.
Hannah, however, had ridden a red pony, happily galloping all over the ranch with Hudson’s encouragement
Back then, Hudson’s eyes had shone with pride when looking at Hannah, but when he turned to Eliana, disappointment was hard to hide.
Just then, Eliana felt a pain in her cheek and snapped back to reality. “Why’d you pinch me?”
Theodore withdrew his hand. “I just told you to change into pants. Is there a need to look so sad? Fine, wear the dress if you want.”
At the ranch, Ellana found that Felix, Ashton, and Lucas had all brought dates. The girl beside Ashton wasn’t Harper, but a sweet–faced young woman nervously tugging at his sleeve, eyeing them curiously.
Eliana gently nudged Theodore’s arm and whispered, “Who is she?”
Theodore glanced casually at the girl beside Ashton and said, “She’s Cathy Ainsworth, a college student Ashton has sponsored for three years.”
After a moment of surprise, Eliana asked, “Where’s Harper?”
Theodore pursed his lips. Though the truth was harsh, he said, “Harper was just a cover for Cathy”
Eliana didn’t understand. “What do you mean?”
“Theodore said flatly, “Ashton took a liking to Cathy three years ago, but she was young and from a poor family. The Ford family refused to let Ashton be with her. To protect Cathy, he pretended to date Harper while actually meeting Cathy secretly
Eliana exclaimed, “Does Harper know about this?”
“What do you think? Harper is sharp in such matters. After all, she’s a Catching Eliana’s angry gaze, Theodore corrected himself, “I mean, Harper is
smart. She knows her place.”
Eliana couldn’t help glaring at Ashton, “Scumbag No wonder Harper went to date male escorts. If I were her, I’d do the same.”
“Get that thought out of your head,” Theodore growled, leaning down to nip her lip punitively.
Just then, Felix, who had organized the group, looked around and asked, “Where’s Julian? Why hasn’t he arrived?”
Someone answered, “He got a girlfriend at Christryas. He’s probably still wrapped up with her.”
Eliana remembered meeting Julian at Theodore’s private gathering. It was said his family ran an underground casino, and Julian had connections in both legal and illegal circles.
Then a voice came from behind them. “Sorry we’re late.”
Everyone turned to see Julian arriving with a beautiful woman on his arm. “Let me introduce my new girlfriend,” Julian said.
