Wenus POV
Aaron was all mysterious about the whole thing, so I went with him back to Alpha’s marior. I hugged daddy and asked him to beep updating de gate thrice a day to tell me if he was doing fine or not or I was going to come to him and drag him with me. He laughed and promised that he would update.
At Alpha’s manor, we went straight to Alpha Martin’s office.
Aaron gave him that tattered book and said, “This is what Venus found in Vicky’s room.”
Alpha Martin picked up the book and frowned. “What am I looking at?”
Aaron looked at me and jerked his chin towards Alpha to show that I spoke with him. I explained everything to Alpha Martin, pointing out the Goldentest herb.
A smile came on his face. “This is fantastic! I’ll ask Queen Ketari where this herb is found.”
“Yes, once we know that location, we can track down the foxes.”
Alpha Martin left a message to Ketari. “Let’s wait for her message. She doesn’t pick up her phone so fast.”
Aaron and I came out of his room and went to our room where I called Lana to find out about father. Both of us were excited, and we wanted to go to search for the foxes, but we knew we had to wait.
“I want to meet Gaia,” I breathed.
Aaron stared at me for a moment. “Let’s both meet her.”
Gaia was in the dungeon, shackled to the wall in iron chains. Since she was a fox, silver wasn’t necessary to shackle her. Iron was strong enough. She appeared haggard. Her hair was matted, her skin was sallow and eyes were sunken. Once she looked beautiful and now disgusting.
She laughed quietly as we approached her. “So what is the next torture you’ve thought of, Aaron?” she hissed.
Surprised, I snapped my head at Aaron, but he didn’t respond, his expression unreadable. He crossed his arms against his chest as the guard opened the cell. I entered inside with Aaron right behind me, like he was protecting me from a shackled fox.
Gaia looked at me down her nose as if in disgust. “Bitch!” she spat. “You are the bane of my existence. I hope you die in hell. Because of you, my daughter is facing adversities.”
“Well, it’s better her than me,” I shrugged. “You are foxes. You don’t have the right to be in our pack, and yet you tried to steal it from me, from all of us. I’m yet to come across people as vile as you.”
Suddenly, she lunged at me. Taken aback, I stepped back, but toward the wall and hitting it.
Aaron came forward and slapped her tightly across her cheek. She shrieked, sliding
“How dare you?” Aaron hissed as shielded me by shoving me behind him. “Guard!” he shouted. “Get a hammer!”
“Aaron?” I breathed, horrified at what he was about to do.
But he didn’t listen to me as he continued to stare at Gaia with fire in his eyes. As soon as the guard brought the hammer, he shouted, “Hold her hand!”
“No, Aaron,” I countered, shaking.
The guard caught Gaia’s hand as she protested, howled and cried, begging him to let her go. However, Aaron was relentless. With a snarl, he brought the hammer on her hand. She screamed in pain as bones in her hand fractured and the flesh became pulp. “Noooo!” she shouted.
Aaron was about to bring the hammer down again when I shouted, “Aaron! No!”

Chapter 60
He stopped midair, his breath shallow as he stared at me with madness in his eyes. Gritting his teeth, he threw the hammer down and walked out of the prison, holding my hand.
“Aaron, stop!” I pleaded, but he didn’t. His anger was so palpable in the air that everyone in the dungeons became silent.

Goosebumps lined my skin. Aaron was burning in the fire to take revenge. His instinct to protect me had triggered after we found out we were mates. And because of recent incidents, he was all the more enraged.
Vicky POV
I skidded down the floor as father hit me again. But I stayed quiet because if I protested, he would hit me again. There had to be a way of getting rid of him. And there was not a day when I didn’t think of a way to get rid of this bastard.
“Because of one fucking mistake of yours, we have lost it!” he shouted. “All my people looked forward to gaining control over my enemies, but look what you did. You have messed up everything. What was the necessity of going with Aaron for the run?”
There was none. But I felt compelled to go with him. Like when he requested, I conceded without thinking about it. And it turned out to be my biggest mistake. The thing was that in retrospect, when I think about it, I feel like I was counter–spelled. It was Aaron who was supposed to fall for me. Or at least that is what he showed. Instead I fell for his charm. How was this possible? I am guessing it was because he was covered in a spell from Queen Ketari.

The door of the room opened and his beta came in. “The perimeter is breached, Alpha Danny,” he said, glancing at me. “One of our landmines was discovered.”
“What?” Father’s eyes bulged in shock. “How is that possible?”
The beta shrugged. “I don’t know, but we smelled wolves in that area.”

I clenched my jaw and lowered my eyes to stay calm and not give away my panic.
“What do we do?” the beta asked.
“We’ll do what we are best at,” father replied, a glint of evil flashing in his eyes. “Attack them one by one, bit by bit. We will corrode the wolves like acid.
