Chapter 17
“How is she doing her job if she’s not even following us around? Tell her to come with us right now.”
She thought, ‘So what if I couldn’t ruin Olivia’s prize? I can still make sure she doesn’t have time to pick anything.
Dylan frowned, thinking it was a bit petty. But seeing Chloe’s eyes red and teary, he couldn’t help but feel bad for her.
So Dylan turned to Olivia with a stern look. “Come with us now. Don’t waste time.”
Olivia furrowed her brows.
The store manager, quick to read the room, immediately stepped up and asked, “Miss, are you in a hurry to leave? You can leave your number with
- me.
“I’ll take photos of all the merchandise and send them to you. You can pick what you like online, and we’ll deliver everything you choose.”
Olivia smiled, “Alright. Thank you.”
She gave the store manager her number, then walked out of the store, throwing Chloe a half–smile on her way out.
Chloe could only hold in her rage and move on to the next store. She was in no mood to show off anymore. Once inside, she just kept shopping. She spent the whole day buying things to vent her anger.
Dylan had no complaints and spent the whole day shopping with her just to help her cool off.
By the time they left the mall in the evening, Chloe’s friends had their hands full of shopping bags–all proof of her spending spree.
Chloe looked smugly at Olivia. “So what if you got lucky and won something? You can only pick out a few dresses. My babe bought me clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry. You don’t have any of that, do you?”
Just as she finished speaking, the mall manager in a suit came running over and stopped right in front of Olivia.
He was still catching his breath but quickly said, “Miss, congratulations. You’ve won our mall’s hidden jackpot. Whatever amount your companions spent shopping here today, you’ll receive that same amount in cash as a reward.
“The money is issued by check–five million dollars in total. Please follow the instructions inside to claim the funds within one month. You can do it online or visit the designated bank. After a month, the check will expire.”
The manager placed an envelope in Olivia’s hands.
“What?” Olivia was stunned.
Everyone else was baffled too, their eyes widening in disbelief.
“What did she win this time for? We were with her the whole time. She didn’t enter any raffle,” Kaitlyn snapped, nearly choking on her jealousy.
The manager smiled, “Our boss was watching the security footage and did the drawing privately. She just happened to be the one picked. No raffle entry was needed.”
Kaitlyn was livid. “What kind of ridiculous rule is that? She didn’t spend a single cent in the mall and won not one, but two prizes–both massive. What did she do to deserve that?”
Chloe was also about to lose it. The slight calm she’d gotten from shopping vanished the moment she saw Olivia win a prize again.
Watching Olivia walk away with that giant prize made Chloe feel worse than if she had lost money herself.
Chloe looked at the manager with resentment in her eyes and forced herself to hold back her anger. “I don’t think I spent five million dollars today. You might’ve miscalculated.
“You should go double–check and take back the extra amount, or you’ll have to cover the loss yourself.”
She looked like she was worried about the staff, but actually, she just didn’t want Olivia to get that much money. Even if she couldn’t take the prize away entirely, Chloe figured cutting down Olivia’s share was still a win.
To maintain her image in Dylan’s eyes, Chloe had been holding back while shopping. Even though she lost control a bit today and bought more than usual, it still didn’t add up to five million.
She’d done a rough estimate–it was around two million dollars.
Chloe was determined to make Olivia return the extra three million. She didn’t want Olivia to gain even the slightest extra advantage.
