Chapter 85
The entire hall went deadly silent. Even Hunter looked shocked at how far Scarlett had gone.
“Our Alpha deserves better than polluting our bloodline with human filth,” she hissed. “This pack deserves better.”
“Yes, she can. And she just did. If you don’t want it to be two months, I suggest you leave now.”
Jace’s commanding voice cut through the hall. I hadn’t even noticed him arrive. Scarlett’s mouth snapped shut in surprise as Hunter dragged her toward the exit. When she disappeared outside, applause broke out across the hall, accompanied by cheers directed at me.

The sudden approval was overwhelming. I turned my attention back to the girl Scarlett had struck. She couldn’t be more than sixteen.
“What’s your name?” I asked gently.
“Sofia, Luna.” Her voice was barely audible.
“Are you okay, Sofia? Do you need to visit the healing center?”
“No, Luna, I’m fine.” She kept her head bowed. “I’m sorry for what happened.”
“You have nothing to apologize for, Sofia. Mistakes happen. If anyone hits you like this again, come tell us directly.”

The crowd gradually dispersed, returning to their duties. I walked over to Jace, who stood quietly against the wall. He’d been watching everything. When I reached him, he wrapped his arms around me, a proud smile on his face.
“And you worried you wouldn’t be a good Luna,” he said. “You’re already the best Luna this pack could hope for.” He kissed me as the remaining pack members cheered for us.
“I couldn’t stand watching her treat Sofia that way,” I said. “Spilled water doesn’t justify hitting anyone.”
“No, it doesn’t. I won’t ever tell you not to intervene when needed. But please be careful. I don’t want you getting hurt.”
His concern touched me. Despite having the Moon Goddess’s power now, I was still carrying our child. Our priority.
“I will,” I promised.
I reached up and gave him another kiss. “I’ll see you at lunch. I’m heading to the library.”
“Studying again?” He smiled. “Always learning. That’s my girl.”
I felt warmth spread through me at his words. For someone who’d once feared becoming Luna, I was surprised by how right it felt to stand up for our pack members. The Moon Goddess had chosen me for a reason, even if I didn’t fully understand it yet.
As I walked toward the library, I replayed the confrontation in my mind. My hand still tingled fr the slap. I’d never been violent before, but seeing Scarlett’s cruelty toward Sofia had triggered something protective in me.

their own–exactly what a Luna should do.
A strange sense of belonging washed over me. For the first time since discovering this world existed, I felt truly at home.
I might have been born human, but I was becoming something else entirely. The Moon Goddess had given me a gift and a purpose. Today was just the beginning of showing everyone–including myself
-what kind of Luna I could truly be.
