Chapter 5
After being discharged from the hospital, Reed came to my family home every day asking to see me. Each time my brother chased him away, not even letting him through the door. But Reed persisted, coming back with unwavering
determination.
Finally, my mother couldn’t stand it anymore and told him with disappointment, “You say you love Harper, yet you fool around with other women, betraying her. But if you don’t love her, why are you acting like this now? What’s the point?”
He knelt before my mother, pleading, “Mom, please let me see Harper. My feelings for her are genuine. I was confused and made mistakes repeatedly. Please, just let me see her.”
“She can’t deny me even one chance to explain myself. I need to talk to her.”
My mother sighed and shook her head. “You should go home. Harper says she won’t see you again unless you sign the divorce papers.”
He didn’t listen and stubbornly continued kneeling outside my family’s door.
But his kneeling at my house was completely pointless since I wasn’t even home. I had already embarked on a spontaneous trip with my best friend.
Along the way, everything seemed new and fascinating to me. My best friend tilted her head, her eyes sparkling as she laughed, “You’ve been cooped up at home since getting married. You have no idea how exciting the outside
world is.”
We visited the Alps to see snow, Norway to watch the Northern Lights, and Hawaii where we danced the hula together. The beautiful scenery brought my happiness, sweeping away all my negative emotions, leaving only good
vibes.
The answers were on the road, freedom was in the wind, and I was determined not to be love’s fool.
During this time, Kyla frequently appeared in public as Reed’s girlfriend. Friends sent me social media posts where
Reed and Kyla were often spotted together.
I found it somewhat amusing–Reed’s brain must have been eaten by zombies. He refused to divorce me while parading around with his mistress. Was he afraid people wouldn’t know he was cheating?
Two months later, I finally returned to Houston.
As soon as I exited the airport, I was surprised to see Reed–he was waiting for me with a bouquet of flowers, approaching me with a tender expression. “Babe.”
I stepped back, regarding him coldly. “We don’t need this charade, Reed. Why haven’t you signed the divorce agreement after two months? Aren’t you having fun with your little girlfriend? Why keep dragging me along? Wouldn’t it be better to let us both move on?”

Hearing this, Reed’s eyes shifted guiltily. “After all our years as husband and wife, don’t you have any lingering feelings? I really need you.”
I laughed. “You don’t need me. You just need a presentable wife who can save your face. And I’m tired of playing
that role.”
What he wanted was my status as the Sterne family’s daughter–something that gave him prestige within the Forrester family and made him look good at social functions. Where would he find another wife like that? If I hadn’t fallen for that handsome face of his initially, I wouldn’t have been so thoroughly deceived.
And look at him now. All these women fluttering around him–what were they good for besides amusement?
With this, I pushed my luggage past him, walking away without looking back, regardless of how upset he looked.
The day after I returned home, Kyla approached me, asking to meet.
I could guess without trying that this meeting would be about convincing me to hurry up with the divorce, but I went
anyway.
Before she could speak, I held up my hand to stop her. “I want to divorce Reed more than you can imagine. So you’d better have a way to convince him to sign the papers.”
“Otherwise, how will you become Mrs. Forrester?”
Obviously, Kyla was completely caught off guard by my words.
She looked down, biting her lip, her fingers fidgeting nervously. After a while, she finally gathered the courage to say, “I know you won’t reconcile with him and want a divorce. I’m not here about that. I’m here because… Reed has another woman.”
WHAT??
I was stunned, thought for a moment, then burst out laughing. “And? Why are you telling me this? Hoping I’ll help you fight off the other woman? Don’t worry–I didn’t even consider you worth my attention, let alone a third or fourth girlfriend. In my eyes, you’re all the same kind–completely beneath my notice.”
“Let me be honest with you–you’re worthless in his eyes. You don’t understand how the wealthy live. They only marry those of equal status. Do you think the Cinderella story will happen to you? Stop dreaming, little girl. Being this naive only makes you look foolish.”
“Wealthy families will never accept a daughter–in–law like you–no family background, a mistress trying to replace the wife, completely worthless.”
My words sent Kyla into a breakdown. She cried out: “But I’m pregnant with Reed’s child!”
“And I haven’t seen him for a week. I looked through his phone and found out he’s seeing someone else. Now he
likes another woman.”
With that, she covered her face, crying with resentment. “What am I supposed to do? I can’t find him anywhere. I have nothing now–he’s all I have.”

Chapter 5
Seeing my schadenfreude, she suddenly looked at me suspiciously. “Don’t tell me you hired this vixen specifically to seduce Reed? How malicious are you? You couldn’t win him back yourself, so you found someone else to torment
me?”
Looking at her resentful eyes, I coldly said, “Are you mentally ill or something?”
Seeing my expression, she became even more convinced she was right. She pointed at me angrily, “Fine, Harper Sterne. Let me tell you–if I can’t be happy, neither you nor that little vixen will be either.”
As if she wasn’t a vixen herself.
I was tired of listening and stood up. “I have zero interest in your affairs with Reed, and I’m not as bored as you are. Please don’t bother me again.”
With that, I turned and left.
