Chapter 6
I underestimated Kyla. She hired someone to follow and secretly photograph Reed and the new girl, discovering that the girl was actually a college student.
She found out the girl’s school and major, then posted all the intimate photos of the girl with She found out the girl’s school and major, then posted all the intimate photos of the girl with Reed on the school’s official forum with the title: “Female College Student Seducing a Married Man–Truly Despicable Behavior!” Not stopping there, she sent them to major media outlets too, demanding that the school take action.
Before long, under pressure, the school called the girl in for a meeting, demanding she immediately stop this immoral behavior and publicly apologize.
But the student refused–having hooked a big fish like Reed, how could she give up? To quell the scandal, the school had no choice but to expel her.
The day the news broke, Reed called my house. He sighed over the phone, “Harper, I told you, if you’d just give me a chance, we could start over. I’d cut off all other relationships. Since you won’t give me that chance, why go after an innocent young girl? Jasmine is only 20–she doesn’t understand anything.”
Hearing this, I felt blood rushing to my head, nearly exploding with anger. “Reed, get this straight–when I say you disgust me, I mean that even hearing your name makes me sick. Do you think I still care about your affairs? That I’d bother with your third or fourth girlfriend? You think too highly of yourself.”
“Also, my lawyer has all the evidence of your infidelity. If you don’t sign the divorce papers soon, don’t blame me for demanding more conditions later. Do you want to leave with nothing?”
My threat worked. Reed finally signed the divorce agreement, and two months later, we were officially divorced.
Looking at me, Reed showed a mix of regret and indescribable emotion. Finally, he just smiled and said, “Let me drive you home one last time, like when we were dating. Okay?”
I stepped back, shaking my head. “Reed, I once really liked you. I thought we’d grow old together. But we’ve come to this point. Now that we’re divorced, let’s leave it at that–there’s no need to linger. Take care of yourself from now
on.”
I don’t know if he understood my meaning. He had so many toxic relationships, thinking he was enjoying the warmth of love’s flame, not realizing that if you play with fire, you’ll get burned.
Sure enough, after Kyla learned about Reed’s divorce, she began pressuring him to marry her.
But how could Reed possibly marry her? Playing around was fine, yet the position of Mrs. Forrester was definitely reserved for some high–society lady.
After being rejected repeatedly, Kyla finally understood what I meant.
A few days later, cradling her visibly pregnant belly, she appeared at the press conference for Forrester Group’s 30th anniversary celebration. Standing behind the reporters, she grabbed a microphone and asked, “I want to ask

Mr. Forrester–do you plan to take responsibility for your girlfriend’s baby?”
With that question, all eyes and cameras turned to her face and belly.
Reed’s father’s face darkened. Reed stood frozen, speechless.
A crowd of reporters immediately rushed forward: “Mr. Forrester, what is your relationship with this lady?”
“We heard she was your former secretary. Did your relationship begin after your divorce?”
“Miss Kyla, were you the mistress who replaced the wife?”
“Miss Kyla, how many months pregnant are you?”
A female reporter who was a mother herself asked pointedly, “Miss Kyla, you look about four or five months along, but Mr. Forrester has been divorced for less than a month. Were you having an affair during his marriage?”
“Mr. Forrester, did you divorce because of this woman?”
Forrester’s PR department quickly stepped in to calm the situation.
Reed finally regained his composure and said, “Of course I’ll take responsibility. I’ve just been waiting for the right moment to plan a proposal. I’ll definitely share the good news with everyone when the time comes.”
