Kane’s expression darkened as he started to pull away from Seraphina. As he moved, Seraphina grabbed his arm with practiced desperation. “Kane, I still don’t feel well. Could you come with me to get my medicine?”
He frowned. His gaze lingered where Aria had disappeared before giving a nod.
At the pharmacy, Seraphina noticed his distracted state and stepped closer with a calculated smile. “Kane, Jasper wants to attend a private kindergarten, but he doesn’t have the proper residency status. I was wondering if we could temporarily register him under your name…”
Afraid of being rejected, Seraphina added quickly, “Don’t worry. It’s just temporary. No one will ever know.”
Kane studied her intently.
Seraphina held his gaze, though her hands clenched nervously behind her back. “Kane…are you upset with me?”
“Putting him under my name isn’t appropriate,” Kane said flatly. “But I can have my mother register him as her ward.”
Seraphina froze.
A ward of the Ravencrest family…
If her son became Kane’s “brother,” where did that leave her as the mother? How could she ever claim the Luna position?
Kane watched her carefully, his deep eyes unreadable. “You disagree?”
Seraphina masked her displeasure instantly. “Yes… Whatever you decide is fine.”
He acknowledged with a response and said nothing more, though his wolf remained unsettled.
Seraphina curled her fingers tightly. This wasn’t what she wanted. But she couldn’t rush things.
As long as her son entered the Ravencrest family and won over the pack elders, she would have her chance to turn things around.

Kane didn’t return to their shared apartment all night.
In the past, Aria would have left the lights on for him, her wolf pacing anxiously until he returned. But not anymore.
Whether he came back or not no longer mattered to her or her wolf.
As Aria was leaving for the hospital, she unexpectedly ran into Seraphina and her son downstairs, their mixed scents immediately alerting her wolf.
She tried to walk past them, but Seraphina called out, “Dr. Ashworth.”
Aria stopped and turned, her wolf on edge. “Can I help you?”

“Dr. Ashworth…do you dislike me?” Seraphina asked, studying her face. “You’re overthinking it,” Aria replied calmly.
They barely knew each other beyond hospital hierarchy. Talking about liking or disliking each other was nonsense.
Seraphina approached with her son. “I’m glad to hear that. By the way, are you heading to the hospital? I’m going there too after I drop my son off.”
Seraphina continued, “Since we’re going the same way, I’ll have Kane give you a ride later.”
