Chapter 16
As evening approached, Kane finished up his business in the pack and drove to the hospital. As he passed by Aria’s office, he paused for a moment.
He just came over to ask Aria if she had said anything to Elder Ravencrest about their bond.
That’s just how it was, he told himself.
“Alpha Ravencrest, were you here to see Dr. Ashworth?”
A passing nurse asked in surprise, her wolf instincts making her automatically defer to his Alpha presence.
Kane replied calmly, “I need to talk to Dr. Ashworth about something.”
“Dr. Ashworth had already left.”
He turned his head, his brow furrowing. “She left?”
Kane’s wolf stirred with unease.
Aria never left early from the hospital.
“Kane!”
Seraphina ran towards him, beaming with a smile. “Have you finished your meeting?”
Kane squeezed out a grunt from his throat.
Seraphina glanced at Aria’s closed office door and grabbed Kane’s arm possessively. “Kane, are you here to see me? My office
is not here!”
The nurse on the side looked embarrassed. Did she misunderstand?
Wasn’t Alpha Ravencrest looking for Dr. Ashworth, but for Ms. Cross?
Kane didn’t explain, he just pulled his hand out and asked, “Haven’t you finished work yet?”
“Nope,” Seraphina leaned closer to him. “By the way, will you come with me to pick up Jasper later?”
Kane was about to say something when his phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID showing “Aria,” he subtly curled his lips and walked to the side to answer the call.
“Have you thought it through? Are you ready to apologize?”
