She accidentally glanced at the phone screen.
It was Seraphina.
Kane didn’t avoid her gaze when he answered. “What’s wrong?”
The tone was completely different when talking to her.
“Kane, Jasper wasn’t feeling well and has been looking for you. I don’t know what to do. Can you…can you come over?”
Even through the phone, Aria could hear the calculated distress in Seraphina’s voice.
“Okay, I’m going now.”
Kane hung up the phone, already reaching for his jacket.
Aria’s face tightened. Seeing him about to leave, she blurted out anxiously, “Alpha Ravencrest, can you consider my terms-”
“We’ll talk about it another day.”
Kane left the apartment after saying this, his scent fading as quickly as his presence.
The room fell into silence.
There was a sharp ache lingering in Aria’s chest.
She asked him for help, but Seraphina could simply call and he would drop everything and leave.
The difference was crystal clear.

When Kane arrived at Seraphina’s apartment, Jasper had already taken his medicine and was peacefully sleeping in bed, his small hand reaching out as if seeking comfort.
Seraphina walked in with a bowl of soup, her movements graceful despite her obvious exhaustion. “Kane, I’m really sorry to trouble you, and to make you come over so late. I can see that Jasper really likes you. How about you stay tonight?”
She knew he cared about the pup, so surely he would stay for Jasper’s sake, right?
Kane confirmed that Jasper had already fallen asleep, slowly withdrew from the child’s reaching hand, and looked at Seraphina. “I will hire a nanny for you to make it easier to take care of him.”
Seraphina’s face changed slightly at his words. “Kane, I didn’t mean that…”
He got up slowly, his Alpha authority filling the room. “You are a single mother with a pup, and I, an unmated Alpha, frequently coming and going from your house is not appropriate. Jasper has already recovered from his fever, so you should
rest well too.”

Kane barely paused and left.
Seraphina tightened her grip on the soup bowl in her hand, and glared at the child on the bed. “You are really useless!”
After that, she slammed the door behind herself.
The little person on the bed did not fall asleep, slowly opened their eyes, with red eyes, curled up in the quilt in grievance.
He had followed his mother’s instructions and taken a cold bath, making himself sick so that Uncle Kane would stay to take care of him.
Why was mom still unhappy…
