Chapter 5
I let out a soft laugh, stood up with Amy, and walked toward the boarding gate with the crowd. I snapped a photo of the airport and sent it to Brant.
[We’re leaving. Never to see you again.]
I pulled out my phone’s SIM card and tossed it in the trash.
Brant Miller–you’ll never see me again.
Before I married Brant, I already owned a wine business in Europe. My winery produced wines with unique flavors and rich, mellow tastes that had been exported worldwide for years with an excellent reputation.
I’d never given up this small business of mine over the years.
Amy had occasionally seen photos of my property before. She’d always been curious about my winery and had begged to visit, but since Brant couldn’t bear to be separated from us, I’d never taken her there.
Now I wanted to take her to my home–our real home. A place without deception, where we wouldn’t be used by
those closest to us.
The boarding line was long. Amy had her arms around my neck, looking around with boredom.
Suddenly she gasped: “Mommy, look–isn’t that Daddy?”
I turned in surprise and locked eyes with Brant.
He rushed over in a few quick steps, grabbed my wrist, then pulled me roughly into his arms.
“Vivian, I remember! I remember everything–you’re my real wife!”
“Vivian, where are you going? Don’t leave! I forgot you before, I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you–come home with me,
okay?”
Amy held me even tighter. I could sense she had no desire to return to that fake “home.”
I struggled free from Brant’s grip and looked at him calmly.
“Mr. Miller, stop joking around. Aren’t I just your maid?”
Brant froze, his eyes instantly turning red.
“That was a misunderstanding, that was… because I had amnesia!”
“After the accident, I had brain trauma–you know that! I couldn’t control myself and mistook someone else for you, but I remember now–I remember everything! Vivian, don’t leave me!”
His hands trembled slightly as he spoke. I knew he was nervous. But even now, he was still trying to cover up his

fabricated lies.
Not far away, Selene came running over frantically and threw herself into Brant’s arms.
“Honey, where is that damn maid trying to kidnap our daughter?”
“You absolutely can’t let her get away with this! She has ulterior motives…”
Before Selene could finish, Brant shoved her to the ground.
“I’m talking to my wife–mind your own business!”
Selene fell back awkwardly. She looked up at Brant in disbelief:
“It hasn’t been a month yet–you can’t break your promise!”
Brant took a deep breath, leaned down, and whispered something in Selene’s ear.
Selene clenched her fists, tears streaming down her face.
“What about the child? You promised me–you promised!”
Brant continued his threats while I stood nearby holding Amy, watching them both coldly.
“Brant, stop pretending.”
“When I went to deliver those documents that day, I heard everything.”
“And today, I heard it all too.”
Brant’s mouth hung open in shock for several seconds.
“Vivian, what… what did you hear?”
