Chapter 9
Thanks to Gavin, what was supposed to be a three–hour seminar ran forty minutes over. I had planned to head straight back to my dorm, but because of Gavin’s threats, I had no choice but to go back and grab my daily necessities. On the way, Aaron kept objecting after learning I’d be staying at Harris Manor, even trying to pull Gavin aside for a private conversation. By the time I finished packing and came downstairs, they were still talking. However, the tense atmosphere between them had disappeared, replaced by somewhat heavy expressions. What on earth had happened? What was Gavin up to now? As I approached, I vaguely heard Aaron ask, “When exactly are you planning to tell her?”
Gavin responded coldly, “None of your business.”
I frowned and interrupted, “What are you two talking about?”
Gavin merely glanced at me indifferently, took the things from my hands, and placed them directly into the trunk. Seeing me approach, Aaron stepped back and hesitantly called out, “Amelia…”
Sensing something was wrong, I grabbed his arm, “Aaron, what’s going on? Did he bully you?”
Aaron quickly pulled his hand away, his tone distant, “Amelia, let’s not see each other anymore.”

I was stunned, “Aaron, what are you saying?”

He couldn’t even look me in the eye, saying quietly, “Let’s break up. I’m sorry.”
I stared at Aaron in disbelief. The boyfriend who had stood up for me before entering the dorm was now cautious, his face full of unfamiliarity and distance. I asked, “Aaron, what’s wrong? Why do you suddenly want to break up? At least give me a reason.”
Aaron stepped back as if avoiding the plague. Then he looked at Gavin and said through gritted teeth, “Gavin, you’re absolutely insane!”
With that, he turned and ran off. I stood there frozen, watching his retreating figure in disbelief. I shouted, “Aaron! Stop!”
Gavin raised his hand to grip my face, forcibly turning it toward him to stare at me, “Do you like him?”
I angrily demanded, “What exactly did you say to him?”
He tightened his grip, “Do you like him or not? Answer me.”
Furious, I slapped his hand away, “Yes, I like him very much. I’ll marry no one but him in this lifetime, okay! What’s it to you? You’re just my student’s parent. Do you think I’m afraid of you just because you have something on me? Your behavior is purely perverted. I’m being generous by not reporting you. What gives

you the right to control me? Go ahead and call the police if you dare, file a report, have the principal fire me!”
With that, I pushed him aside and turned to chase after Aaron. But before I could take a step, I was yanked back by tremendous force, then hoisted up by Gavin. No matter how I struggled, he steadily carried me to the car and forcibly shoved me into the back seat before getting in himself. The car doors locked. I frantically tried to open the door but found it wouldn’t budge, then turned and slapped Gavin across the face. After the crisp sound, the air fell silent. Gavin tilted his head to look at me without saying a word. Completely oblivious to the strange atmosphere, I grabbed his collar and demanded, “Gavin, get this straight! We only have an employment relationship right now. Whatever you’re thinking, I want you to stop interfering with my life. Otherwise, don’t blame me for turning against you—neither of us will have it easy.”
With me gripping his collar, Gavin remained expressionless, only his eyes growing increasingly cold. The next second, he suddenly raised his hand to grip my throat, pressing me down onto the back seat. He yanked my hair violently and asked, “You’d turn against me for someone you’ve only known for half a month?”
Enduring the searing pain in my scalp, I struggled desperately and kicked at him, “Let go of me! I haven’t even known you for half a month–what right do you have to say that?”
Those words seemed to sting him. Gavin’s expression instantly

darkened as he pressed down on my legs. The sound of tearing fabric filled the air, followed by a cold sensation that made me gasp. “Gavin, this is school–you wouldn’t dare!”
He turned to stare at me, gripping my chin forcefully. “Didn’t you say you wanted to turn against me?”
Hearing his words, that familiar bittersweet sensation surged through me again. My breathing quickened, and my heart skipped a beat. Through the windshield, I saw students approaching in the distance and immediately shook my head frantically. He showed no mercy, instead pressing my head firmly against the seat. Tears streamed from the corners of my eyes as I gritted my teeth and threatened, “Gavin, I’ll kill you!”
He lowered his gaze, his voice carrying a sickly cold tone. “Is that so? Amelia, so your obedience last night was all an act?”
As that maddening tingling sensation hit me, I cried out again. Just then, voices came from outside the car. “Wait, let me touch up my makeup.”
“What shade is your lipstick?”
“I just bought it. Want to try it? I thought the rose red made me look too old, so I went with pink instead…”
Separated by only a car window, two faces were practically pressed against the glass, peering inside. Even though I knew they couldn’t see inside, overwhelming shame washed over me,

and my nerves tensed instantly. “Why aren’t you cursing anymore?” Seeing me covering my mouth, Gavin suddenly rolled down the window. I heard the voices from outside

and froze completely, trembling uncontrollably. “Oh, there’s someone in the car…”
“Let’s go, let’s go.”
The people outside left in surprise, and I covered my face, sobbing in the seat. After a long while, Gavin finally released me. He casually pulled out a wet wipe to clean his fingers and asked indifferently, “Have you learned your lesson?”
I lay against the seat in silence. Seeing no response from me, Gavin reached up and pinched my lower back hard. I cried out, trying to escape, but he pulled me back into his embrace. After another long moment, he nibbled at my ear, his voice low and twisted: “Amelia, you can only love me.”
