Chapter 16
I kept my head down, focused intently on all the video content, not even noticing the person standing at the doorway.
Ryan’s voice was calm and indifferent: “So you know everything
now?”
I looked up at him: “So you do know Ella, don’t you?”
He said: “I know her.”
I lowered my head and smiled bitterly: “It must be exhausting, putting on this performance every month.”
Ryan shook his head expressionlessly: “It’s fine, Ms. Crawford. I know you’re feeling conflicted right now, but it’s okay. There are only five days left until next month.”
My nose stung: “Five more days? And then everything starts all over again?”
Ryan walked over to gather the scattered documents on my bed, putting them back into the box.
He said: “Please just bear with it until Uncle Gavin returns. Just five more days.”
I trembled with anger and threw the marriage certificate in my hand forcefully onto the floor: “Five days… haha, five days! You

want me to spend five days acting like I know nothing alongside Gavin? Is this supposed to be entertaining?”
Ryan clenched his fists, his gaze sharp as he looked at me: “Then what, Amelia? If you’re not satisfied, then remember everything! Time stops at this month for you, but have you thought about Uncle Gavin’s feelings? To help you recover your memory, how many times has he lived through this same month?”
I suddenly asked: “Did I force him to do this?”
Ryan was stunned for a moment, then let out a cold laugh and shook his head gently: “Uncle Gavin is such a fool. He actually drove himself crazy for someone like you. He repeats the seene of your first meeting over and over again, just because the doctor said it might stimulate your memory recovery. But after all this time, what have you actually remembered? Amelia, I’m begging you—just pretend you didn’t see anything today. It’ll be over soon. Just hold on for five more days, and you’ll be free.”
Listening to Ryan’s words, I hung my head in despair.
When Gavin left earlier, I thought hope was within reach. Now I see why he left so easily.
I said helplessly: “You know what, Ryan? I actually thought I still had choices. But now I see I’m just a joke, living all along in the world Gavin built for me. What choices could I possibly have? How ridiculous.”

After a long while, Ryan looked up at me: “Amelia, I know a housekeeper in the Swedish countryside. If you’re willing, I can help you leave this place.”
I was stunned and immediately stood up: “You can help me leave here?”
Ryan nodded: “But I have one condition. You need to sign a divorce agreement and promise never to appear in front of Uncle Gavin again.”
Looking at Ryan, I understood his reasons for doing this.
He was tired too—tired of accompanying me and his uncle in this charade that had been going on for so many months.
I said: “Alright, I agree.”
Since Gavin took me abroad for medical treatment every month, my passport hadn’t expired yet.
I bought a ticket to Sweden overnight and left Harris Manor.
