“Marcus, please stop bothering me.”
“I’ve already married Henry.”
We had just left the courthouse after getting our marriage license.
After the banquet ended last night, Henry told me what I had said when I blacked out from drinking.
“Henry, why did you lie to me about not being interested in women?”
“Because that was the only way I could stay by your side and protect you. If I had told you I’d had feelings for you since we were children, while you were so in love with Marcus, you would have certainly cut ties with me.”
My eyes instantly welled up, “So you waited for me all these years, and let me misunderstand you for so long?”
“It must have been so painful for you to watch me being affectionate with Marcus all that
time.”
I truly understood that bitter feeling, having walked a similar path myself.
Suddenly, I remembered when I first arrived at the orphanage as a child. I was only five, and Henry was already ten.
I suffered from PTSD, having nightmares and being afraid to sleep at night. He was always there for me, comforting me.
He taught me how to draw, braided my hair beautifully, and gradually helped me overcome my trauma,
Later, when he was adopted by a wealthy family, he still came back to see me often, spending his own allowance to take me out for pizza and ice cream, buying me pretty dresses. He even paid for my education.

But after I started college, I fell in love with Marcus. I remember when I shared this
excitement with Henry, he didn’t say a word.
The next day he was hospitalized with a bleeding ulcer from drinking too much.

Afterward, he told me I could always share everything with him as a good friend, because
he wasn’t interested in women.
And I actually believed him.
Marcus’s lies ended up hurting me, while Henry’s lie only hurt himself.
This time, I took the initiative and kissed him.

That night, I pinned him to the bed and said, “Do you dare sign an agreement with me –
whoever asks for a divorce has to commit suicide!”
“I dare!” he replied without hesitation.
Later, my father organized an incredibly luxurious wedding for us. Our happy wedding photos were displayed on digital billboards throughout downtown, playing on a loop for three days.
The day after the wedding, Henry drove me to the orphanage where we grew up.
It had now become the best children’s home in Riverside County. Henry had contributed
substantially to the place over the years.
When we walked hand in hand to the director’s office, we saw Marcus.
He was signing documents with his head down, with Morris standing beside him.
I snatched the paper from under his hand, glanced at it, and angrily confronted him,
“You’re truly heartless!”
The director asked with confusion, “What’s wrong? This gentleman is helping process the child’s admission paperwork.”

“Director, this is fraud! He is this child’s biological father!”

Marcus knelt down before me, crying, “I was wrong, but what can I do? My company has collapsed, I’m buried in massive debt, I don’t even have an apartment anymore. How can I take care of a child!”
Without another word, I called the police.
As the officers were taking him away, he turned back to me with tears and said, “Georgina, I really did love you. I’m sorry. I wish you both happiness.”
