Jaxon’s face darkened. “Caleb,” he cut him off. “Is this your first day working with me?”
Caleb, who had just stepped out of the meeting room, suddenly held his breath. He rarely involved himself in Jaxon’s private affairs–especially since his boss hated anyone prying too much, particularly about plans he was about to carry out.
“Understood, Mr. Zale,” without further questions, Caleb quickly replied. “I’ll handle it right away.”
Jaxon didn’t respond. He cut the call first, walked straight towards Howard’s ward, expression turning even grimmer.
“Grandpa, are you really feeling better?” As Jaxon entered the room, he heard Brad’s stern question.
Seeing him come in, Brad greeted him politely before turning his attention back to Howard.
“I’m definitely better.” Howard gestured toward the door. “If there’s nothing else, you two can head back. I have something to discuss with Jaxon.”
“Alright.” Brad said nothing more. He led Lena out and shut the door behind them.
“How do you feel, father? Are you really better?“Once they were out, Jaxon pulled a chair and sat beside Howard, voice concerning.
Howard didn’t answer directly. Instead he simply gave Jaxon a soft smile. “Actually, I was only in a light sleep earlier, didn’t fully drift off. I overheard some of your conversation outside–thanks for standing up for Sally.”
“Why do you trust her so much?“Jaxon looked up at his father with a serious gaze and a low voice. “It can’t be her first time treating you with acupuncture, right?”
He knew Howard had always been health–conscious. At a critical moment like this, without enough trust, how could he have let her perform acupuncture so recklessly?
“Well, Sally treated me with acupuncture years ago during an emergency,” Howard spoke up slowly. “It was even more serious than this time. But she managed to save me.”
Jaxon frowned, “Why didn’t I know about that?”
“Not only you, but even Brad didn’t know. It was a sudden accident, and she happened to be passing by and saved me. Otherwise, I might have died.” Howard chuckled, “I told Brad about it later, but he probably didn’t tell you.”
At that time, Jaxon was tied up with overseas projects, so Howard didn’t want to distract him, especially since his condition was improving.
“That girl has saved my life more than once,” he sighed. “Too bad Brad lacks vision. He’s married to such an outstanding woman but doesn’t appreciate her, instead messing around with that actress!”
Worrying about Howard’s condition, Jaxon cut him off, “Alright, enough talking about them. You said you had something to tell me?”
“I just want to say, you’re more sensible and capable than Brad,” Howard sighed. “If he ever mistreats Sally, as a senior, you need to keep an eye on things. They don’t tell me everything…”
Hearing his father’s words, a low chuckle escaped Jaxon’s lips. Howard lifted his gaze, confused.
“What’s so funny?” he asked.
“Don’t worry. Mrs. Zale is tougher than you think.” Jaxon replied seriously. “If those two ever fought, Brad wouldn’t even stand
a.chance.
“Hmph, Howard muttered, “You say it like you really know her.”
“I wouldn’t say I know her well, but having dealt with countless people, I can tell she’s no ordinary woman.” Jaxon replied.
Howard nodded. “In terms of medical skill, she’s definitely impressive.”

Jaxon looked into his father’s eyes and saw a trace of relief, but inside, he felt a strange heaviness.
The whole Zale family thought Sally was a timid housewife who only knew about doing chores. But Jaxon knew maybe that wasn’t the case. He had definitely changed his impression of her.
Over the next two days, Sally made sure to check on Howard’s recovery whenever she could.
After her acupuncture, his condition had improved significantly. Three days later, he was discharged.
On that same day, Caleb finished his investigation. He brought Sally’s file to the family house as soon as possible.
“Mr. Zale, before Mrs. Zale married into the family, there’s nothing particularly special in her background,” he reported to Jaxon. “Her mother passed away early, and her father remarried. She grew up living with her grandfather, Blake Smith, a famous scholar in traditional studies, but he passed away years ago. After that, Mrs. Zale married into the Zale family.”
“That’s it?” Jaxon sounded dissatisfied.
“Well…” Caleb hesitated a moment before continuing, “I’m not sure if her medical skills come from Master Smith. Although he was excellent, he reportedly only taught male disciples. His only known disciple kept a low profile and definitely isn’t Mrs. Zale.”
“So basically, you found nothing?” Jaxon tossed the file onto the table. His deep eyes grew cold like ice.
“The face is, Mrs. Zale’s credentials aren’t complicated… ” Caleb paused, then added as if recalling something. “However, I did find that Mrs. Zale has been applying for the necessary permits to open a clinic. Looks like she plans to start her own medical practice.”
“Open a clinic?” Jaxon frowned. “Where?”
“It’s on 186 Greenville Road,” replied Caleb.

Sally only learned Howard had been discharged the day after he left the hospital. Relieved, she threw herself fully into preparing for the clinic.
She spent the next few days scouting locations, eventually settling on a spot found by Abigail. It was modest, but perfect for a traditional medicine clinic.
Close enough to Windmere Estates, about a ten–minute drive, the place sat right by the road and was newly renovated–no need for major work.
The space had previously been a medicine clinic run by an elderly doctor who had retired with his daughter’s encouragement, planning to rent the shop out. But unexpectedly, the person who came to sign the contract was the doctor’s daughter, Elise.
The moment Sally saw her, she recognized her immediately. Elise was Lena’s only outsider friend and one of the masterminds behind Sally’s imprisonment.
Elise wore a black dress and sat gracefully at the front desk. Upon hearing Sally’s voice, she looked up, and their eyes met.
“Sally?” her brow furrowed sharply. “What are you doing here?”
“Signing a contract.” Sally glanced around. “Where’s the doctor?”
