“I asked him to come. It’s been a while since we’ve all had a meal together, and I thought it would be nice to catch up. It’s not too much to ask, is it?” Eleanor said, glancing over at Gregory.
Gregory’s expression stayed neutral. He walked up to her and greeted softly, “Hi, Mom.”
Eleanor nodded, a faint smile tugging at her lips.
The harmony they displayed in front of others was in sharp contrast to the tension in the car the other night. It was almost
jarring
But neither of them seemed to mind. They wore the masks of a devoted son and a kind mother without missing a beat.
“Greg, take a look. What do you think of Nat’s work?” Eleanor aske
Natalie looked up at him with eyes full of hope. She didn’t care what the others said. She only cared about what Gregory thought
Gregory merely glanced over briefly and muttered, “It’s fine.”
The same piece everyone else had raved about got a measly “it’s fine” from Gregory. Eleanor’s smile froze, and Blake looked just as uncomfortable.
Natalie was taken aback for a moment. But she quickly recovered with a soft smile and said, “Well, Greg’s always had high standards. I’ll have to work even harder to earn his praise.”
“High standards?” Eleanor let out a snort. Just thinking about how he’d come to warn her in the car over Anathea had her simmering again. “If he really had such high standards, he would have listened to me in the first place.”
“Come on, Aunt Eleanor. Greg’s done a great job running Sinclair Group. You can’t blame him for having his own take on things,
Theo chimed in quickly, trying to ease the tension.
Gregory didn’t respond. He turned to Eleanor and asked calmly, “Why did you call me here?”
He knew that she never asked him to come without a reason.
Since he was being so direct, Eleanor decided to get straight to the point. “Mrs. Presgrave’s birthday is this weekend. The Presgrave family’s been a long–time business partner, and Mrs. Presgrave loved the exhibition Nat put together. I want you to attend the party with Nat.”
Gregory didn’t say a word.
Noticing that, Natalie quickly apologized earnestly, “Greg, I’m really sorry about what happened at the hospital. I didn’t mean for things to go that way with Ms. Jacobson. But I swear things aren’t how the video made it seem. If Ms. Jacobson is still upset, I can apologize-”
“No need,” Gregory cut her off flatly. “She did scratch your face. You don’t owe her an apology.”
A hint of surprise flickered in Natalie’s eyes, but they quickly lit up.
The meaning behind Gregory’s words was clear–he was defending her. Indeed, in Gregory’s eyes, Anathea was just an ordinary woman he kept at home.
Once she had Gregory’s heart and Eleanor’s support, she thought kicking Anathea out of the Sinclair family would be easy.
Eleanor’s lips curved into a satisfied smile at his words. “So, you’ll take Nat to Mrs. Presgrave’s birthday party?”
“Yeah,” Gregory replied simply.
The smile on Natalie’s face deepened.
But Theo frowned. While Natalie and Eleanor were discussing things with Blake, he grabbed Gregory’s hand and pulled him aside. He whispered, “What the hell was that? Why did you say yes”

“Is there a problem?” Gregory asked calmly,
“Of course there is!” Theo hissed, then quickly lowered his voice again, continuing seriously, “Do you know that Mrs. Presgrave’s birthday party is also her 30th wedding afiniversary? the guests are married couples.”
Eleanor wanted Gregory to attend with Natalie to make it clear to eryone that Natalie was the rightful Mrs. Sinclair.
