Arla was stunned for several seconds before finally glancing at today’s date.
June 10th.
Time really did fly by.
“I haven’t forgotten,” Aria lowered her eyes and smiled, then thought of something and added, “It’s just that I can’t guarantee whether Kane will be able to attend.”
Charlie was about to respond when Gabriel snatched the phone away. “Aria, your mother and I are planning a birthday party for your brother. You and Kane must come–no, you have to be there! Show proper support for your brother!”
“Dad, aren’t you making things difficult for Aria?” Charlie’s voice came from the background.
“You don’t understand anything, kid!”
Charlie grabbed the phone back and walked away from the noise. When the commotion faded, he said, “Aria, don’t worry about what Dad said. If Kane is busy, that’s fine. It doesn’t matter. I’ll be happy just having you there.”
Aria nodded, her voice slightly hoarse. “Alright.”
After ending the call, she stared at the screen in silence for a long time.
Birthday celebrations…
After the age of eight, she had never celebrated her own birthday again.
But on her younger brother’s birthday, she always made sure not to disappoint him.
She picked up her phone and composed a message to Kane. The content was revised several times, with deletions and modifications, until it looked casual rather than desperate before she finally sent it.
But the message she sent out received no response.
She didn’t wait endlessly anymore. She set her phone aside and continued working.
The next day, Aria changed into nicer clothes and walked out of the living room, only to be startled by the sight of Kane already there.
Margaret had taken the day off, leaving them alone in the apartment.
