Eric POV
The next day ! tried to act normal as Lexi came to sit with me in the cafeteria. I didn’t want to be here, but what choice did I have? Every time I thought about calling Nicole or going to see her, Lexi’s threat rang in my ears. I couldn’t risk it. I couldn’t let this mess ruin everything.
Lexi leaned in close, whispering a joke. I forced a small smile, but I wasn’t really listening. I was too busy scanning the cafetería, my eyes searching for Nicole. And then I saw her standing by the door. Our eyes met for just a second, and I saw the hurt in her gaze before she turned and walked away.
My stomach dropped. I wanted to get up, run after her, tell her everything. But I didn’t. I stayed rooted to my spot. Lexi’s smile widened as she watched Nicole leave. I couldn’t help think how fucking vicious Lexi was. And what if she had an internal agenda? Did she truly hate Nicole so much that she didn’t want her to see happiness? But why? What had Nicole done to her?
“See, I told you, it’s not so difficult,” Lexi cooed. “Just play along with me and you’ll be fine.”
I narrowed my eyes at her. “What is wrong with you? Why are you after Nicole?” I asked, trying to figure out her evil mentality. On the inside, my wolf wanted to kill her for doing this to Nicole. And I have no idea why he was clamoring inside me to go to her. Like he hated the rift caused between us and wanted to go back to the comfortable presence of Nicole. What bothered me was the fact that he had never shown this side of his to humans or any other girl in my life.
Lexi chuckled. “Don’t worry,” she said in a condescending way. “You won’t understand. So just play along. And as long as you are with me in this, you are safe.”
Gritting my teeth, trying to calm the rage inside me, I got up from there to put as much distance as possible between me and Lexi. My wolf would claw her to death if I sat even for a single minute extra. There had to be a way out of this nonsense. As I headed for the next class, I called Aaron.
For the next two days, I tried calling Nicole over and over again. She didn’t answer. Not even once. I leave voicemails, text messages, everything. I tried to explain, but I got nothing back. The silence on her end was killing me. I’d never felt this helpless before. But she wasn’t wrong. After all, she had seen me three times with Lexi now.
By the third day, I couldn’t take it anymore. I decided I had to see her, even if she didn’t want to talk to me. I needed to explain myself, to make her understand what was happening. So I headed straight to her dorm, ignoring the uneasy feeling in my gut, ignoring Lexi’s warning.
As I got close to her building, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Lexi standing there, her expression icy. Was she keeping a watch on me? What lengths could she go to monitor me and make sure that I stayed away from Nicole? I didn’t like her demeanor at all and in my mind, there were a hundred red flags about her. I didn’t know what I was missing, but I was determined to find out.
“I told you not to go back to her,” she hissed. “Do you really want me to file those charges, Eric?”
I took a deep breath, my fists clenching at my sides. I’d had enough. It was time for a showdown. “Lexi, you’re not going to file any charges,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
Her eyes narrowed. “Oh? And why is that?” She crossed her arms across her chest. “You are mistaken, Eric. If you meet Nicole, I will. In fact, I am doing you a favor by stopping you from meeting her.”
I pulled out my phone. I tapped the video Aaron had sent me and played it. He had got from the campus security because, of course, Aaron had access to all that and then some more. He was about to become the Alpha of the largest werewolf pack and he had a lot of influence over the humans. Those who knew his real identity. They were a handful, but the most powerful humans in the world. They were like gatekeepers between the two worlds.
I shove the phone in her hand. She frowns as she watches it. It was clear as day–Lexi stepping in front of my car. I don’t know what her plan was, but this video showed the truth.
“You jumped in front of my car on purpose,” I said, my voice filled with a new kind of rage.“I got this video from the security cameras. You were faking it,
Lexi.”
For a moment, Lexi’s face went pale. Then she recovered, her expression turning angry. “That video is doctored,” she snapped. “You think anyone’s going to believe you? I’ll say you made it up to cover your own mistake. I’ll sue you for defamation. Or maybe I’ll do something even worse.”

I didn’t understand why she was doing this, why she was so set on destroying everything Nicole cared about. But one thing was clear. I couldn’t let her
win.
Taking a deep breath, I turned back to the dorm building. I knew Nicole might not want to see me, but I had to try because I couldn’t let things and like this. I needed to make things right with her.
With anticipation, I headed inside, determined to tell her the truth, no matter what happened after that.
