Dominic’s Unusual Behavior
(Ryan’s POV)
I watched Sophia Winters walk down the yacht ramp, her shoulders slumped in defeat. Her usual grace was missing, replaced by the heavy steps of someone whose dreams had just been crushed
“Sophia,” I called after her. “This is the last time I’ll help you with his.”
She turned, her face a mask of controlled pain. “What do you mean?”
“Keep your distance from Dominic in the future. My fiancée is good friends with bis Luna, and I’m friends with Amber myself.” I crossed my arms. “I don’t want to feel sorry for my friends because of you.”
Sophia gave me a look that made my skin crawl. It my already foul mood.

“You have your own career. Focus on that,” I added firmly.
She didn’t respond, just turned and continued walking away.
My wolf stirred restlessly under my skin. This whole situation reminded me of my encounter with Liam at Moonlight Photography last week. I’d gone there hoping to discuss Shannon with Paige, but found her laughing with that pup Liam instead.
The memory still burned. Liam had been hovering around Paige, bringing her moonlight tea and smiling at her like she was the
moon itself.
“You’re neglecting her,‘‘ he’d said when Paige stepped away to take a call. “A woman like her deserves attention.”
“Watch your tone,” I’d growled. “She’s my fiancée.”
Liam hadn’t backed down. “For how long? You barely see her anymore.”
“I’m building something for our future!”
“While I’m here,” he’d replied calmly, “showing her she matters through hard work and thoughtful concern.”
The accusation had stung worse than I wanted to admit. Especially when he’d added, “Maybe she needs someone closer to her age who understands what she needs.”
I should have shown my dominance then, put the pup in his place. Instead, I’d stormed out, letting his words fester.
That confrontation had triggered my recept?

I sighed and pulled out my phone. I needed to warn Dominic that Sophia might not give up so easily.
(Ryan’s POV)
I’d originally planned to invite Dominic to the yacht party. That changed when he sent me a photo of yellow diamond cufflinks- Amber’s birthday gift to him. The message read: “From my mate. Perfect, right?”
The happiness radiating from that simple text had made me reconsider. Dominic deserved his special day with Amber.
Then Sophia called.
“Ryan, I need to meet with Dominic,” she’d said, her voice tense. “It’s important.”
“He’s celebrating his birthday with his mate,” I’d replied, trying to be gentle. “Maybe you should get back to filming.”
Her laugh had been brittle. “If I mention my brother, he’ll see me. He owes Samuel that much.”
The threat in her tone had been unmistakable. I knew the story–Samuel Winters had died in the accident on Ravenclaw Bridge,

the same accident where Dominte was injured. Dominic had alway carried that gilt.
“But I don’t want to use my dead brother as leverage,” she’d continued. “Not unless I have to.”
That’s when I made my mistake agreeing to help arrange a meeting, hoping to prevent a worse confrontation later.
I’d enlisted Felix’s help, knowing I’d need backup when Dominic realized he’d been tricked.
Felix had been blunt: “The Alpha is eager to get home for dinner with Amber. Dock the yacht now.”
He’d been right. Dominic had arrived furious, realized the deception Immediately, and left without even bothering to hit me sign of how eager he was to return to Amber.
Now, watching Sophia’s retreating figure, I felt compelled to make one last attempt.
“Sophia,” I called, jogging to catch up with her. “Listen to me. Dominic loves hier deeply.”
She stopped but didn’t turn around.
“He fought hard to be with her. Do you understand? It wasn’t easy for them.”
“What do you mean?” Her voice was barely audible.
“His past… it’s complicated. But he’s finally happy with Amber.” I stepped in front of her. “Please, let him have this.”
Tears welled in her eyes. “You’re saying I have no chance.”
“None,” I confirmed, hating the cruelty but knowing it was necessary. “He’s found his Luna.”
She nodded once, then walked away, disappearing into the night.
(Amber’s POV)
Something was wrong with Dominic.
He returned from his meeting with Ryan smelling… different. Not another woman’s scent–I would have recognized that immediately. This was subtler–the sharp tang of insecurity mixed with fear.
“Everything okay?” I asked as he wrapped his arms around me from behind, nuzzling my neck.
“Perfect now that I’m with you,” he murmured, his grip tighter than usual.
He followed me into the kitchen of my riverside apartment, insisting on teaching me how to cook venison steaks.
“The secret is the temperature,” he explained, standing so close I could feel his heartbeat against my back. His hands covered
mine as we seasoned the meat.
Every few minutes, he’d kiss my temple or stroke my hair. The affection wasn’t unusual–Dominic had always been tactile–but this felt desperate, like he was trying to reassure himself of my presence.
“Did something happen with Ryan?” I tried again.
“Nothing important.” He turned me around, cupping my face. “I just missed you.”
We’d been apart for less than three hours.
Throughout dinner, his eyes rarely left my face. He refilled my wine glass before it was empty, served me the better cuts of meat, and kept finding excuses to touch me–my hand, my wrist, my cheek.
Later, as I washed dishes, he pressed against me again. “Let me do that.”
“I’ve got it,” I assured him.
“Then let me help.” He took the sponge from my hand, his fingers lingering on mine.

This continued all evening. When I sat on the couch to read, he pulled me onto his lap. When I went to shower, he joined me. When I checked my email, he massaged my shoulders.
Even our lovemaking felt different more intense, more focused on my pleasure than ever before. Afterward, he held me so tightly I could barely breathe.
“Dominic,” I whispered into the darkness. “What’s going on?”
His chest rose and fell against my back. “What do you mean?”
“You’ve been… clingy since you got back.” I turned to face him. “It’s not like you.”
In the dim light, I could see vulnerability in his eyes–an expression I’d rarely witnessed on his face.
“Are you happy with me, Amber?” The question was so unexpected almost laughed.
“Of course I am. Why would you ask that?”
He traced my jawline with his finger. “Would you leave me? If someone better came along?”
I propped myself up on one elbow. “There is no one better. You’re my mate.”
“But if there was,” he persisted. “Someone younger, more attentive…”
“Dominic,” I interrupted, “what happened tonight?”
He sighed, rolling onto his back. “Ryan told me about a younger wolf pursuing Paige. Someone who works with her daily, who’s always there while Ryan is busy with work.”
“Liam,” I supplied. “He’s my assistant at the studio.”
“Ryan is afraid of losing her,” Dominic continued. “And it made me wonder…”
“If you could lose me?” I finished for him.
He nodded, looking uncharacteristically vulnerable.
“Our bond is different,” I reminded him, placing my hand over his heart. “We’re mates. True mates.”
“I know.” He covered my hand with his. “But I still fear losing you
The admission surprised me. Dominic Blackwood, Alpha heir and one of the most powerful werewolves in the Northern Territory, afraid of losing me.
“You won’t,” I promised, kissing him softly.
My phone buzzed on the nightstand, interrupting the moment. I checked the screen and frowned.
“What is it?” Dominic asked.
“Lucas is in trouble.” I sat up, already reaching for my clothes. “He’s drunk at the Moonlight Club. Apparently, his mother set up an arranged date, and he’s not handling it well.”
“I’ll come with you,” Dominic said immediately.
I shook my head. “He needs me specifically, according to this text. You know how he gets when he’s upset–he won’t listen to anyone else.”
Dominic looked reluctant but nodded. “Be careful. It’s raining.”
I dressed quickly, kissing Dominic before heading out. “I’ll be back soon.”
The rain was coming down hard as I drove to the Moonlight Club. My mind was split between concern for Lucas and puzzlement over Dominic’s behavior. I’d never seen him so insecure.

The club was packed despite the weather. I pushed my way through the crowd, alert and protective as I scanned for Lucas.
As I approached the dimly lit entrance to the VIP section, I accidentally collided with someone.
“Sorry,” I muttered, trying to step around them.
The person removed their mask and sunglasses, revealing themselves to be Sophia Winters, the famous actress. Her amber eyes, so similar to my own, held a strange determination as they lacked with mine.
