Chapter 1
On our wedding anniversary, I tumbled down the stairs from the third floor while pregnant.
Jasper Thornwood was terrified, carrying me straight to the hospital.
As they administered the second dose of anesthesia, I hazily overheard a conversation between the doctor in the operating room and someone monitoring remotely.
“Mr. Thornwood, we’ve followed your instructions regarding the anesthesia–administered six times the normal dose. Mrs. Thornwood won’t feel any pain. However, the fetus is showing normal vital signs. Are you certain you want us to proceed with inducing premature labor? Not only will the baby suffocate to death, but this could leave Mrs. Thornwood paralyzed for life!”
Jasper’s ice–cold voice responded, “Do it.”
“This is a critical period for Carson’s acceptance into the Thornwood family registry. I can’t allow anyone to threaten his position. This is a debt I owe to Vanessa and her son, one I must repay.”
“Once Carson is established in the family, I’ll devote all my resources to healing Vivienne and we’ll have another baby together. It will compensate for the harm this child has caused her.”
‘But this child… must die!”
A tear slowly rolled down my cheek as I lost consciousness completely.
When I woke up, my fully–formed baby boy had died at birth, and I was left paralyzed from the waist down due to a evere pelvic separation caused by the aggressive delivery procedure.
The immense pain and shock of betrayal intertwined in my heart.
io when Jasper prepared to start our “new life” together, I didn’t hesitate to fake my death and disappear.
After the surgery, I passed out again upon hearing the devastating news.
When I regained partial consciousness, I could faintly hear Jasper conversing with a friend.
Vivienne has been with you for so many years. Don’t you know her at all? Even if you’d told her Carson was your
iological son, she would have treated him as her own. Why put her through this nightmare?”
After a long silence, Jasper’s voice finally responded with cold detachment, “I see, but I couldn’t risk it.”
I promised Vanessa.”

“Besides, we can have another child. Vivienne is young–we’ll have our own children in the future.”
His friend sounded confused. “You’re worried that Vivienne’s child would have legitimate standing, and with the Reynolds family’s influence, it would threaten Carson’s position in the family line, right?”
“You’re being cruel! The baby was fully formed. When they brought him out of the operating room, I saw how tiny he was… How could you do this?”
Hearing this, I could almost feel the tearing pain below, my baby’s cries echoing in my ears, repeatedly cutting through my heart with unbearable agony.
“And Vivienne is paralyzed because of this surgery. She’s your wife! Do you have any idea how difficult her
pregnancy was?”
“If she hadn’t been so damn stubborn, sneaking around to sabotage the… none of this would’ve happened.” Jasper sighed heavily. “Letting her have a child of her own was already a huge compromise from Vanessa!”
“You think I don’t care about her? But the Quinns saved my life–I owe them everything. What the hell was I supposed to do?”
The man angrily whispered, “Then you should’ve kept your hands off Vivienne Reynolds in the first place!”
They parted on bad terms.
I silently wept where they couldn’t see me, not daring to make a sound.
“Everything taken care of?” I felt Jasper adjusting my blankets.
“Paid them enough hush money that they’ll never need to set foot in U.S. again.”
He had sent everyone involved in my surgery out of the country–truly ruthless.
I laughed bitterly to myself, keeping my eyes shut.
I’d thought he was as excited as I was about our baby’s arrival. So when I fell down the stairs, I hated myself beyond
words.
I was even willing to sacrifice my mobility, landing on my back to protect my belly from any impact.
But I never imagined this was all Jasper’s setup!
He deliberately spilled oil on my regular path, intentionally causing my miscarriage, and had already arranged executioners at the hospital.
Such a cold–blooded heart!
My proud husband, the marriage I believed in–all fake!
Chapter 1
Jasper was willing to murder our own flesh and blood with his bare hands, all for his illegitimate son! Just so the kid could enter the family registry, secure inheritance rights, and fulfill some goddamn promise he made.
Thinking about this, my body trembled.
Yet the pain spreading through my lower body couldn’t compare to even a thousandth of the agony in my heart!
