Chapter 4
That night, I got a call from an unknown number.
“Hi, is this Eve? Christian’s had a little too much to drink… could you come get him?”
I was confused. Christian’s always got people with him–assistants, drivers, someone to handle this kind of thing.
But I didn’t ask questions. I grabbed my keys and left.
It was pouring.
No cabs would stop.
By the time I finally flagged one down, I was already drenched–head to toe.
I showed up at the bar looking like I’d just been dragged out of a flood.
Soaked through, shivering, clothes clinging to me.
And the bouncer at the door? Wouldn’t even let me in.
“Yeah, no. This place’s exclusive. We don’t just let in anyone.”
I wrung out the sleeve of my jacket and wiped rain off my face, cheeks burning with embarrassment.
“I’m just here to pick someone up. I won’t stay long, I swear.”
The guy shook his head.
“Sorry. No entry for anyone not properly dressed.”
I didn’t even have the energy to argue.
And then–Christian walked out of the VIP section.
With a woman right behind him.
I lit up, just for a second. I raised my hand to wave–and froze.
He pushed her up against the wall.
Kissed her like he meant it.
Hot. Messy. Desperate.
My stomach turned. My heart just… stopped.
And then, through the muffled club noise and the rain, I heard his voice.

Clear as day.
“Eve’s great and all, but you’re just… more fun right now.”
“I’ll ditch her eventually. I’m just not sick of her yet.”
“You drive me crazy–you know I love you more.”
Every word felt like a blade. Over and over.
The man who held me every night.
Was now saying he loved someone else–because I’d gotten boring.
I stood there, soaked and stunned, staring at them like I wasn’t even in my own body.
My mind kept replaying that one phrase-“Not sick of her yet.”
I didn’t go in.
I couldn’t.
I didn’t even know how I got home.
But I remember this:
That night, I collapsed.
Got hit with a fever that kept me down for three days and three nights.
Christian stayed.
Nursed me the whole time.
If you ignored the scent of another woman’s perfume on his clothes…
He was the perfect boyfriend.
Looking back now, it’s obvious–Bianca wanted me to see that night.
She made sure I’d find out.
Same way I saw it tonight.
From the moment we left that charity gala, Christian had been off–distant.
Even though it was my birthday.
Even though I had begged him not to go.

But he went anyway. No hesitation.
And I saw it.
I saw the way he rushed to her.
The way he couldn’t even hide it.
And in that moment, I finally understood exactly where I stood in his heart.
Yeah, he loved me.
But he never said he loved only me.
Christian didn’t even think he was cheating.
Maybe Bianca was nothing to him.
Or maybe… I was.
Either way–I couldn’t do it.
I couldn’t share him.
I couldn’t accept a love that split itself between me and someone else.
I pointed to the faint lipstick mark on his neck.
Then repeated his own words back to him–slowly, coldly.
“Eve’s great and all… but you’re more fun right now.”
“You drive me crazy–you know I love you more.”
“Give it time… I’m just not sick of her yet.”
Christian went pale.
His hand clamped around my wrist, trembling.
“Eve, wait–please, that’s not what it was. Let me explain.”
I pulled my phone out and tossed it on the bed.
The screen lit up.
Photos. Of them.
His lips on hers. Her arms around him.
My voice cracked with rage. “Then what the hell is this, Christian?”

Chapter 4
“What am I to you, huh?”
Everything I’d been bottling up all night just exploded.
“You couldn’t even wait until I was out of the picture before lining up the next girl?”
“If you didn’t love me anymore, you could’ve just said so.”
“You didn’t have to lie to my face.”
“Five years, Christian. What did that mean to you?”
I was yelling now, voice hoarse, throat raw.
Tears were falling hard and fast, blurring everything.
He scrambled to wipe them away, his own voice breaking.
“No–Eve, please. I messed up. I wasn’t thinking.”
“She didn’t mean anything. It was just a stupid mistake–I love you, I swear.”
He reached out to pull me into him.
I stepped back.
Shook my head.
“No, Christian. We’re done.”
“One betrayal is one too many.”
