Chapter 100
Chapter 100
“Mr. Blair, I’ve heard so much about you.” Dillan walked up to Byron’s Lincoln and tapped on the rear window.
The driver reacted instantly, got out and yanked Dillan aside. With his massive frame, he easily pinned Dillan to the ground,
Writhing in pain, Dillan shouted in panic, “Byron, you know Sylvia, don’t you? Get your ass down here right now. We need to talk.”
Byron couldn’t care less about this kind of roadside provocation–he just wanted to teach the guy a lesson and move on. But at the mention of “Sylvia,” his eyes turned cold. He swung the door open and got out..
Byron gave the driver a subtle wave to stand down. Only then did the driver release Dillan. “You know Sylvia?” Byron asked, his face unreadable.
Dillan straightened his suit and stomped over huffily. “Of course I know Sylvia–I was her first love.”
Byron’s expression darkened ever so slightly as he pressed his lips into a thin line, saying nothing.
Dillan hastily pulled up his phone’s photo album and shoved it in Byron’s face. “Look at this. See? These are photos of me and Sylvia.”
Byron glanced at the photos. They were indeed of Sylvia, but they looked like they had been taken over a decade ago.
Dillan said through gritted teeth, “Sylvia and I were childhood sweethearts. If her grandfather hadn’t forced her to marry you, we’d be married by now.
ay the hell away from Sylvia. You’re already divorced–quit sticking to her like a leech.”
Byron remained cold. “And?”
“And?” Dillan sneered. “Sylvia has kids with you, doesn’t she? Don’t use them as an excuse to see her anymore. If you want the kids, I can hand them all
back to you. Sylvia and I will have our own children soon enough.”
Byron’s jaw ticked ever so slightly. He let out a cold laugh. “You done?”
Dillan gritted his teeth. “Not yet, Byron. You may outrank me in business, but what Sylvia really wants is a man who’ll always be there for her–and that
man is me, not you.”
Byron gave him an icy glare. Once Dillan had finished speaking, Byron strode back to the car, rolled down the window, and ordered the driver outside. “Teach him a lesson. Then dump him on the road.”
Dillan was caught off guard by Byron’s brutality. Before he could utter a word, the driver landed a heavy punch that sent him crashing to the ground, then started pummeling him with fists and kicks.
Dillan felt like every bone in his body was about to break, but the driver showed no sign of stopping. He kept beating him until Dillan was too weak to fight back, then dragged him into the middle of the road.
Cars whizzed by in both directions. Dillan’s face turned pale with terror. Pain rendered him nearly immobile, but he scrambled and crawled desperately to the side of the road, just trying to get out of harm’s way.
A car roared past, missing him by inches–it nearly sent him flying.
Byron sat in the car, his face a mask of calm, but his eyes burned with barely contained fury. He pulled out his phone and dialed. “Run a background check on a man named Dillan Sheppard. Find out if Sylvia is involved with him.”
It didn’t take long before the report came back. Mr. Blair, according to our investigation, Dillan was indeed Sylvia’s first love. Over the years, she’s provided substantial assistance–even helped establish his company.”
A pang of bitterness rose in Byron’s chest as Dillan’s words kept echoing relentlessly in his mind. He thought, ‘Sylvia actually pursued Dillan? She wanted to be with him? She doesn’t want me bothering them? And now she’s planning to have his children?‘

Chapter 100
Sylvia had no idea what had gone down between Byron and Dillan. It was already late. She had tucked Zack and Ruby into the same room–Zack on the top bunk, Ruby on the bottom.
The two kids were curled up chatting nonstop, whispering back and forth.
“Mommy, Daddy was so nice to me he bought me tons of yummy snacks.” Ruby’s eyes sparkled as she pointed excitedly at the pile of snack bags on the table and said.
“Cut down on the snacks,” Sylvia said coldly.
“Uh–huh.” Ruby nodded, then suddenly remembered. “Oh, right. Mommy, a doctor from overseas came to see Daddy today and drew a lot of his blood.”
Sylvia looked at Ruby. “Is he unwell?”
Ruby scratched her head. “Hmm, maybe not… I think it was something about you, Mommy, but I can’t remember.”
Zack propped his chin and said, “Mommy, I was right there and heard it all clearly. It really was about you. I think Daddy’s blood can cure your illness, so
the doctor wanted to take his blood for tests.”
Ruby nodded vigorously. “Yeah, Zack’s right. Last time you fainted at the hospital, Daddy’s blood saved you.”
Sylvia froze for a split second–then everything suddenly clicked into place. After her last fainting spell, Ruby mentioned that Joanna had given her a
nk, which triggered an allergic reaction and led to her hospitalization.
“Was it Byron who saved me at the hospital?‘ Sylvia thought.
For years, she had been researching how to cure her allergies. She’d even wondered–since she and Byron had been poisoned by the same toxin all those years ago–perhaps his blood contained the antibodies she needed.
But that was just Sylvia’s speculation, and she had no intention of turning to Byron for help, so she just let the matter drop.
With mixed emotions, Sylvia retreated to her bedroom. She thought to herself, ‘There’s no denying Byron saved me. But that alone isn’t enough for me to forgive him. Byron owes me so much he could never repay it–not in this lifetime.‘
Since the next day was the weekend, instead of sending Zack straight back to Byron’s place, Sylvia decided to treat both him and Ruby to a fun day at the amusement park.
It wasn’t until the afternoon that she took Zack back to Byron’s place. Sylvia watched as Zack ran into the yard, then drove off.
Halfway there, she got a call from Zack. “Mommy, Daddy’s sick. I think someone made him so mad it made him sick. Can you come check on him?”
Sylvia frowned and immediately swung the car around, heading straight back to Byron’s place. After all, Byron had just saved her a few days ago. She couldn’t just ignore him. ‘Someone made him sick? Who the hell was it?‘ she thought.
Zack craned his neck, waiting anxiously at the door. Sylvia followed him into the house. Just as Sylvia stepped into the living room, she spotted Joanna carrying a fruit tray, about to head upstairs.
The instant Joanna saw Sylvia, tears sprang to her eyes. She cried out, her voice quivering with both heartache and grievance, “Sylvia, why are you here again? Won’t you just let Byron go?
“Last night, your first love Dillan came to see him and made everything clear. Since you want to be with Dillan, then stop coming after Byron. Sylvia, please, just go find your happiness and let Byron go, okay?”
‘Dillan came to see Byron?‘ Sylvia thought. ‘What did Dillan say to Byron? Did Dillan actually make him sick with rage?‘ Sylvia’s eyes flashed with fury as she marched upstairs. ‘If Dillan really did this to Byron, I won’t let him get away with it.

Who the hell does he think he is? Whatever’s between Byron and me is ours alone to settle. I won’t tolerate any outsider butting in. If anyone dares use this as an excuse to hurt Byron, they’ll have me to deal with.‘
