Chapter 216
Skye’s POV
I glanced at Adrian, trying to convey my need for privacy. “I can handle this myself. Just wait for me outside, okay?”
Adrian studied my face for a moment, then leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead. “I’ll be right outside if you need me,” he said softly before walking out, closing the door behind him.
The cabin suddenly felt much smaller with just Leon and me inside. I took a moment to really look at him. He seemed different, worn down somehow. His usually clean–shaven face was covered with stubble, and dark circles shadowed his eyes. The election had clearly taken its toll on him.
“I want to apologize,” I began, breaking the heavy silence between us. “If we hadn’t crossed paths again, this Alpha King election would have been yours. I know how much it meant to you.”
Leon lifted his chin, that familiar pride still evident despite his exhaustion. “I lost fair and square. I’m not so weak that I
need to blame a woman for my failures.”
I took a deep breath. “You need to accept my apology because becoming your Second Chance Mate might not have been the Moon Goddess’s plan at all.” I paused, gathering courage for what I needed to say next. “My mother told me that when I ran away four years ago, she sought out a witch and placed a blood curse on me. So what happened between us… it was just a mistake.”
“A blood curse?” Leon’s mouth curved into a skeptical half–smile, but his eyes dimmed slightly. “Was everything between us just because of a blood curse? Is there really no chance for us anymore?”
I shook my head slowly. “If I hadn’t met Adrian, I think…”
“Stop,” Leon interrupted, his voice suddenly harsh. “You don’t need to continue. The entire universe knows how in love you two are, right?”
His cold, dismissive attitude stung, even though I knew it was just his way of protecting himself. Leon had always been too proud to show vulnerability. But seeing his contempt, and indifference still hurt.
I thought about how things might have been different. If he hadn’t been my mate from the beginning, I could have been like Ethan, a loyal friend and ally to him. But fate had other plans.
“Since we’re going to dissolve the bond anyway, might as well do it now,” Leon said abruptly.
“What? You mean right now, in this cabin?” I hadn’t expected things to move so quickly.
Leon straightened his shoulders, his face solemn as he formally declared, “I, Alpha Leon of the Frostshado Skye as my mate!”
k, reject
As the words left his mouth, pain shot through my chest, sharp and immediate. It was the second time I’d experienced his rejection, but the pain felt no less intense. “I, Beta of the Oasisborn Pack, accept your rejection,” I managed to say through
gritted teeth.
Leon maintained his composure as he walked out of the cabin, acting as if nothing significant had happened. Meanwhile, I clutched my chest with one hand and braced myself against the table with the other, struggling to stay upright as waves of pain washed over me.

Chapter 216
Adrian rushed in moments later, his face filled with concern. He swept me into his arms, cradling me against his chest. “Did you dissolve the mate bond with him?” he asked gently.
I nodded, unable to form words through the pain.
Adrian pressed a soft kiss to my lips and said nothing more. He simply held me, providing silent comfort as my body processed the severed connection.
That night, my body burned with fever. I tossed and turned, drifting in and out of strange, fragmented dreams. Visions of snow–covered forests, blue flames, and vampire killings swirled through my mind. I felt like I was floating, disconnected from reality.
When I finally awoke the next morning, my head throbbed mercilessly. I pressed my fingers against my temples and tried to push myself up, but every movement sent fresh pain shooting through my skull.
Adrian walked in carrying a tray of breakfast, his face immediately softening with concern when he saw me struggling. “You have a fever,” he said, setting the tray on the bedside table. “It’s probably from dissolving the mate bond, plus you haven’t been sleeping well lately.”
He helped me sit up, arranging pillows behind my back for support.
“You’re probably right,” I agreed, wincing at the sound of my own voice. “I haven’t been sleeping well at all. I think I had nightmares last night too.” I looked up at him, suddenly worried. “I didn’t say anything weird in my sleep, did I? I hope I didn’t disturb you.”
Adrian shook his head, but something in his expression made me pause. He seemed to be considering his words carefully.
After a moment of silence, he spoke, his voice tentative. “You called out Leon’s name in your dreams last night.”
