Sylvia stared at Dillan, utterly bewildered. “What did you just say? You want to help me lease this place?”
“Yeah! You’ve got so many businesses overseas. Don’t you think it’s time to start bringing them back home?” Dillan said excitedly.
Then he scratched his head sheepishly. “Sylvia, I’d love to pay the rent for you right now, but you know… I haven’t had much spare cash these past few years…”
Sylvia shot him a mocking look. “So, what exactly are you implying?”
“Sylvia, let’s not stand on ceremony,” Dillan said firmly. “Just give me an advance payment and I’ll go secure the lease for this place. Don’t worry. I’ll manage your business well. That way, you can stay home with the kid.”
Sylvia let out a bitter laugh. “Dillan, what kind of joke is this? I pay for the lease, relocate my businesses here, and then let you manage them? Tell me,
which one of us has lost our damn mind?”
Dillan flushed and quickly defended himself, “Sylvia, I’m just short on cash for now. Besides, if I help manage your company, it’ll make things easier for
you.”
With that, he quickly brought up the past again. “Sylvia, don’t forget I was the one who helped you through his funeral when your grandfather passed away. You know you can trust me.”
Back in the village, Dillan was simple and honest. But after seeing the outside world, he changed. He started chasing impossible dreams and his ambitions got way too unrealistic.
Especially after Sylvia effortlessly secured him a foothold in the business world, he grew even more arrogant.
Just then, Sylvia faintly heard heavy footsteps coming up the stairs. Instinctively, she turned around and only to see Byron standing in the doorway.
Sylvia’s heart skipped a beat. She thought, ‘How did Byron find me here?
‘This is bad! I was going to find Byron and convince him to stay at home. But knowing his temperament, if he saw me with Dillan, he’d probably pack up and leave immediately.‘
Byron’s tall frame filled the doorway. His chest tightened painfully as he saw Sylvia and Dillan together. He took a labored breath, his hand tugging hard
at his tie.
Every time Byron saw Sylvia with another man, he’d lose control of his emotions a little.
His resolve hardened even further.
Byron thought, ‘I’m going abroad now!‘
He turned on his heel, ready to walk out.
Sylvia’s voice was icy. “Dillan, stop daydreaming. What makes you think I’d ever trust you with my business? Is it just your shameless audacity?”
Just as Byron made up his mind to leave, Sylvia’s words sent a sudden jolt through his heart.
Byron had assumed Sylvia and Dillan were here on a date, but to his shock, Sylvia was actually scolding Dillan.
He pivoted sharply, his gaze icy as he froze in his tracks.
Dillan’s face turned red with embarrassment as he snapped, “Sylvia, we grew up together. The outside world is tough. I’m the only one who truly cares about you.”
Then he extended his hand and said, “I’ve already negotiated with the developer. The annual rent here is 650 thousand dollars. Hand me the money

upfront, and I’ll go lock it down right now.”
Sylvia stared at him with a sneer. “After all these years in business, you can’t even come up with 650 thousand dollars? That really makes me doubt your competence. Pay up first, and then talk to me. Otherwise, how do I know you’re telling the truth?”
Dillan fell silent for a moment and then clenched his jaw. “Fine, I’ll go pay right now. I’ll contact you once it’s done.”
He hurried downstairs through the exit on the other side.
Even though 650 thousand dollars was a huge sum for him, Dillan figured he could take out online loans and cover the rent as soon as possible. After all, Sylvia would be footing the bill in the end anyway.
Byron stood silently at the exit, having clearly overheard every word of Sylvia and Dillan’s conversation. The bitterness and disappointment in his eyes grew even more intense.
Just then, Joanna approached and said, “I heard from Mrs. Blair that you’re planning to go abroad. What a coincidence. I’m thinking of heading overseas too. Why don’t I go with you?”
Byron’s icy expression told Joanna that Sylvia had gotten under his skin again.
For Joanna, if Byron went abroad, it would be her golden opportunity.
Byron gave a stiff, expressionless nod and turned to head downstairs.
“Where are you guys going?” Sylvia strolled over at a leisurely pace, shooting a glance at Joanna, becoming even more convinced Joanna was behind Dillan’s appearance.
Byron paused and then turned to Sylvia with an icy stare. “Sylvia, you must be thrilled. I won’t bother you anymore. I’ve decided to go abroad.”
“I’m coming too,” Sylvia said without hesitation.
Joanna was taken aback. “Byron’s going for a work transfer. Why are you going?”
Sylvia sneered, “I’m going with Byron.”
Byron’s heart lurched as he snapped, “Sylvia, what kind of game are you playing now? You couldn’t stand me before, and now you’re insisting on following me?”
“What? Don’t want me to come with you?” Sylvia scoffed, shooting him a cold smirk. “Too bad. I’ve already made up my mind. I’m going wherever you
go.”
‘If it weren’t for Byron taking Zack abroad, I couldn’t care less where he goes,‘ Sylvia thought.
Byron snapped, “Sylvia, what the hell do you want? In your eyes, I’m even worse than that scumbag. And now you’re feeding me this crap. Do you really
– think I’d buy that?”
The scumbag he was referring to was Dillan, a complete and utter scumbag.
Sylvia chuckled, “If you know he’s just a scumbag, why even bother with him?”
With that, Sylvia deliberately took Byron’s hand. “What? Are you saying I can’t go?”
Byron felt her soft hand in his. His heart skipped a beat and his face flushed red.
Byron actually loved the feeling but instinctively jerked his hand away. ‘She must be up to something,’ he thought, suspicion flickering in his mind. Yet somehow the words slipped out. “Do you really mean that? You’d go wherever I go?”
Joanna’s face darkened at the words.

Sylvia grinned and said, “Of course! I’ll bring Ruby along with us. Maybe when she grows up, she’ll end up marrying some handsome guy from overval Wouldn’t that be perfect?”
Hearing what she said, Byron felt a wave of irritation wash over him.
He thought, ‘Ruby is just a little kid. What if, after growing up overseas, she ends up settling down there for good?
‘Marry a foreign guy? Over my dead body!‘
Joanna grew frantic at his side. “Byron, Sylvia would never sincerely go with you. Let’s book our flights how and leave right away, okay?”
Byron’s expression darkened, hesitation flickering across his face.
Sylvia suddenly snapped, her voice sharp with anger. “Byron, what the hell is that supposed to mean? Are you seriously planning to sneak off with Joanna behind my back?”
Byron kept telling himself, ‘Don’t fall for this. No matter how sweet Sylvia sounds, she must have ulterior motives. Yet, his heart inexplicably wavered, and his tone softened unconsciously.
“Sylvia, don’t get me wrong. I haven’t actually finalized anything about going abroad yet,” he said.
