“You f****d Odin’s sister.” Anderson was more judgemental than Cruz expected.
“It happened. I have zero regrets. She fits.”
“She fits?”

“Like in my arms. She fits. I could carry her strapped to my chest and she fits there. The s*x was smoking.”
“You hate her.”
“Hate is a strong word, but I admit I never liked her much because she was always so damn antagonistic. I swear to God every time we turned around as kids she was pulling some other kind of s**t on us. As adults though, I don’t really know her now.”
“She singlehandedly ruined a fifty–million–dollar deal.” Anderson reminded him.
“I know.”
“My sister gave me s**t for hacking Presley’s itinerary and getting you into the rooms. I told her we could have a war of hackers if she tried to undo what I did. I told her I was going to monitor everything constantly to make sure you made Presley go along with the plan. I told her we weren’t looking to torture her but to fix the PR nightmare you’re having.”
“Thanks.”
“Then she told me how you destroyed the dildos and took the door off the bathroom.”
“She hasn’t found out I threw out all her make up yet.”
“Why would you toss her make–up?”
“I like her freckles.”
“You’re such a liar.”
“I do! I always liked them when we were growing up. They make her interesting.”
“What has gotten into you?”
“Pain meds. Stopped by the medic at the resort here. Presley threw a mug at my face earlier when she realized I took the door off the bathroom and it hit the tile floor, shattered and a shard bounced and landed in my foot. Then I stupidly was chasing her and not watching where I was walking and stubbed my big toe into this sharp rock and cut the damn thing wide open. Got sand in it and everything. The nurse cleaned it out for me and bandaged it and gave me a painkiller because I swear my toe had a heartbeat of its own.”
“Question.”
“Shoot.”
“What are you going to do when Odin finds out you f****d his sister?”
“Nothing. I don’t care if he finds out. He’s turned into a giant fuckwad.”
“I’ve been back in Vancouver from Montreal for six months longer than you. I didn’t realize how much he’d changed. I was kind of hoping you’d see it and then tell me I wasn’t crazy for thinking it.”

“Remember when he told us he quit his job because working for his father was a nightmare with Gavin constantly up his ass and when he quit Gavin made it so nobody would hire Odin in the industry” Cruz took a breath, “he lied man.”
“I figured when Presley called him out at brunch.”
“He got fired for screwing a secretary.”
“Worse,” Anderson complained, “he apparently coerced her and made it impossible for her to refuse him. She provided the evidence. I asked Sloane about it, and she said it was when he ordered her to let him f**k her on the desk while he called her his little paid w***e, she couldn’t take it anymore. She went to Gavin directly and asked to be assigned to a different office because she couldn’t deal with the abuse. She brought receipts for his behavior. Gavin didn’t have a choice. He paid her a huge lump sum, got her to sign an NDA so it wouldn’t affect his company, got her set up in a company working for a female CEO and then fired Odin. Sloane was telling me how Odin was angry and threw fists at his father and needed to be escorted off the premises.” Cruz rubbed his hand over his mouth as he stared at the ceiling in the hotel room. “Presley told me how right after this happened, he called Marsha. Called her a terrible mother because she should have fought more for her family and the reason he was suffering now as an adult was because she failed.”
“What the hell happened to him?” Anderson questioned quietly. “He was always a bit wild, but this misogyny is weird. I knew he disliked Scarlett or whatever, but this feels next level. Was he always like this?”
“When we were kids, do you remember how he used to threaten suicide all the time? If we didn’t do what he wanted, he was going to kill himself?”
“He swore there was nothing to live for since his stepmother and sister took his family away from him. He’d cry real tears.”
“We’d cheer him up by making him laugh.”
“What are you thinking?”
“I think he was emotionally manipulating us to do his dirty work and since we were best friends, we did whatever he wanted.”
“Come on man, we were kids. He wasn’t some kind of evil mastermind.”
“I was dealing with the death of Mom. You were dealing with a new sister when your parents decided to have a second kid. He was there for us when we were going through our hell. We did for him what we knew he’d do for us. I don’t remember either of us ever instigating the other to do the things we did for him. When he asked us to do questionable s**t, we didn’t even balk. Why not? Why didn’t we tell him no.”
“Because he was the worst one out of us mentally. He was the one who was depressed and suicidal. We were
kids.”
“It got worse as we got older,” Cruz argued. “He really didn’t amp up our pranks until we were teenagers.” “I think it started the summer we were twelve, didn’t it. The summer when we went with their family to
his little Vancouver Island for a week.” Anderson said quietly. “He was crying. Do you remember? His dad not us to sleep in the tent and we heard him crying about how his father was making him sleep outside w princess got to stay inside the warm cabin. He started talking about wishing he was dead and how his father would probably be happier if he was gone, and Gavin only needed Presley. The next day we were stomping on her sandcastles and making her cry. She would have been five.”

“We were trying to make him see we liked him more than her. I don’t know. We were twelve.” Cruz countered again, “but we were still doing s**t in our twenties. Why?”
“He asked us to. It was all fun and games.”
“Was it?” Cruz questioned quietly. “She made a point at brunch. If someone pulled half this s**t on Sloane, you wouldn’t have stood for it.”
“Come on man, she gave it back as good as she got. Remember the hot pepper sauce in our shampoo bottles? We thought we were so cool washing our hair in the damn lake and the three of shared the bottle. It got in all of our eyes. I couldn’t see straight for weeks. It was a prank war, and yes, some of them were extreme, but she was all in.”
“She hates me.”
“She can’t hate you too much if she got on your
dick.”
“Sure, she can.” Cruz snorted. “She doesn’t need to love me to get horny.”
“Girls do.”
“You’ve never had a one–night stand?” He was laughing at Anderson’s logic.
“I mean girls like Presley, Sloane, Halima. They need more.”
“Whoa,” Cruz immediately picked up on something in his buddy’s voice. “What was that?”
“What?”
“The way you said Halima. You bang her?”
“No.”
“You make love to her?” Cruz laughed as he adjusted his phrasing.
“No. She was just here earlier with Sloane when Sloane was tearing into me for hacking Presley’s itinerary. I haven’t seen her since they were in college. She looks good.”
“How good?”
“I mean really good. She’s all big brown eyes and long dark hair and curves for days.”
“What does she do?”
“Investment broker,” Anderson sighed. “She’s brilliant. I mean brilliant. She graduated top of her class in high school, college and has her master’s and she’s only twenty–five.”
“You tell her you’re interested?”
“Yes. She shot me down hard and then Sloane twisted my n****e so hard I felt it in my d**k. Sloane told me to leave her friends alone. Halima flipped me off as they left. It seems they hate me too for the pranks we played.”
“I don’t know how to proceed.”
“Why? You’re there to make a statement to the world so your investors are confident in you. Your father wants you to convince her to marry you. Are you going to go so far?”

attention since the minute she threw wine at me in the restaurant.” He took a breath, “it was part of why my date took off. I grew a f*****g boner from Ladybird standing there giving me hell. The way she gives me grief makes him stand up and take notice. Today, the photographer told her to get on my lap and kiss me for the PR stunt and next thing I know I’m balls deep.”
“Odin is going to f*****g murder you.”
“He can kiss my ass. I’m still angry about the s**t he pulled last summer when he came to visit and now all this we’re finding out. He used to balance out his edginess with being fun but there’s no fun left in him.”
“I can’t believe you didn’t throw him out last summer. I was moving back and missed the trip to Toronto with him but when you called me and told me he got drunk in a strip bar when you were at work in the day and the cops brought him to your offices, I was surprised. I can’t help but wonder now though if he was berating the women in the club the way Sloane says he treats all women and it’s why he was nearly arrested.”
“The only reason he wasn’t arrested was because he dropped mine and Dad’s names, but I thought it was simply drunken and disorderly behavior. Now I’m not sure. He was also so damn unfocused. One minute fe was telling me he was going for a run and the next minute I’d find him playing video games or we would make plans to meet for drinks when I was done working and he wouldn’t show up and then call me to tell me he was at a different bar. It was frustrating as fuck.”
The door pushed open, and Presley entered and glowered at him reclining in the bed.
“Hey man, my fiancée is here. I’m going to let you go.”
“Give her hell man.” Anderson laughed loud in his ear as he hung up.
He smirked at Presley, “That was Anderson. Just so you know, he told Sloane if she interfered with any of the bookings, he would be right on it to not only keep us together, but he’ll also put us in honeymoon suites with all the fixings.”
She rolled her eyes and shrugged, “it’s fine. Do you want you need to do, Hawley. I have other ways to make your life a living hell.”
“Bring it, beautiful,” he looked down at his d**k and then back to her drawing her gaze, “he loves when you’re feisty.”
“You’re an i***t,” she moved to open the sliding patio doors.
“If you have more rage you need to f**k away, I’ll be right here resting my feet. You can ride cowboy,” he chuckled as she slammed the patio doors behind her and the sound of a chair being yanked across the terrace making her irritation known. Picking up his phone he looked into the concierge service of the hotel and decided to do something nice for her and if it resulted in a good photo op, then so be it.
