His assistant left with the task.
Caleb then punched the bodyguard captain, his eyes sharp.
“What were you all doing when it happened?”
“Why didn’t you protect Aubrey?!”

The bodyguard captain spoke cautiously, “Mr. Davies, you instructed us to ensure Mrs. Davies’s safety…”
He looked at the unharmed Sera.
His eyes were full of grievance and confusion.
Caleb’s next punch landed hard on the wall.
Bright red blood flowed from between his knuckles.
He remembered the blood on Aubrey’s chest.
A belated dread crawled up his spine and into his chest.
A warm hand touched his back.
Caleb turned to see Sera’s concerned eyes.
He frowned.
He spoke slowly. “Sera, I’ll give you fifty million. I don’t want the child, and don’t come
looking for me or my parents again.”
“As for the wedding, it’s canceled!”
Mrs. Davies immediately protested. “You can’t! You don’t know that Sera is Miss
Kingston. Marrying her would be a step up for you, it’s not something you can just cancel!”
Panic flickered in Sera’s eyes. She clutched Caleb’s sleeve tightly, tears welling up and then falling.
“Caleb, I know you only love Sister Aubrey. I just ask that you visit the child often.”
“I don’t want him to be born without a father.”
Caleb looked at Sera’s face, which sometimes offered him a fleeting sense of novelty, and
suddenly felt a profound.

“Since you know I only love Aubrey, why do you keep disturbing us, again and again?”
“Why did you lie to me about the child being sick?”
Mrs. Davies quickly explained, “That was my idea! It had nothing to do with Sera! What’s wrong with me wanting more grandchildren?”
“That Aubrey of yours still hasn’t given birth to a child, and you treat her like a treasure…”
“I won’t allow an orphan like her to be my Davies family’s daughter–in–law!”
Caleb was confused. “When did I ever say Aubrey was an orphan?”
Mrs. Davies looked at Sera, who could only continue to lie. “Sister Aubrey never mentioned her family, I thought…”
Caleb remembered Aubrey telling him three times that her father wanted to meet him.
He had put her off every time because Sera said the child missed his father.
Regret churned in his heart.
Then he recalled Aubrey’s cold gaze after their fake divorce.
His hands started to tremble uncontrollably.
He spoke hoarsely, “Mom, where’s Aubrey? I need to see her.”
Mrs. Davies mumbled evasively, unable to give a specific location.
The air in the hospital room solidified. Caleb’s voice turned harsh. “Tell me!”
Mrs. Davies finally blurted out the truth.
“I don’t know!”
“We all left! Who knows what happened to her!”

Leaving Mrs. Davies’s scolding and Sera’s sobbing behind.
