Caleb placed Sera in the ambulance and was about to grab a nurse to rush back.
“Quick, hurry back with me to save Aubrey!”

The corners of his eyes were red, his face drained of color.
Mrs. Davies quickly pulled him back.
Sera weakly called out to him, “Caleb, my stomach hurts so much.”
But Caleb ignored her, raising his voice, his tone urgent. “Come with me to save Aubrey
now!”
Mrs. Davies gave a look, and bodyguards stepped forward, forcing Caleb into the car.
“A bodyguard taking a bullet for the employer is in the contract. If anything happens, we’ll just pay more money.”
“You look after your daughter–in–law. I’ll have someone handle things over there.”
Mrs. Davies’s gaze met Sera’s in the air.
Sera immediately showed a pained expression. “Caleb, I know you love Sister Aubrey. The nurse has already gone to help her. You should come to the hospital with me first, get everything arranged here, and then wait for Sister Aubrey to arrive.”
Caleb gave up struggling, closed his eyes briefly, and ordered the driver to leave.
A flicker of triumph crossed Sera’s face.
She grabbed Caleb’s hand and placed it on her lower abdomen. “Caleb, feel this. The baby was almost scared.”
Caleb looked at her expressionlessly, pulling his hand away.
He missed the flash of resentment on Sera’s face.

At the hospital, she handed Caleb a glass of water and a sedative.
Caleb, completely unprepared, passed out.
When he woke again, he saw Sera sitting by his bedside.
“Caleb, you were overwhelmed with anxiety and fainted.”
Caleb stared at the ceiling for a while, disoriented.
Suddenly remembering Aubrey being shot, he tried to get up and leave.
Mrs. Davies stopped him. “What’s the rush? We sent that bodyguard to a better hospital,
the doctors said she’s out of danger.”
“What you need to do now is finish the wedding. All the guests are still here.”
Caleb’s voice was hoarse. “Mom, Aubrey isn’t a bodyguard, she’s…”
Mrs. Davies cut him off. “No matter who she is, I only recognize Sera as my
daughter–in–law. You two have children now, it’s time to cut ties with all these other
women.”
Caleb was suddenly speechless. He regretted not revealing Aubrey’s identity sooner.
But he had never liked his parents meddling too much.
Aubrey should be free to enjoy his love.
Not be tied down by the confines of a wealthy family.
Once the child’s illness was cured, he would give Aubrey his complete self.
Thinking of the child, he quickly dialed Dr. Finch. “Dr. Finch, how are the child’s test results?”
Dr. Finch’s voice was playful. “Old Caleb, what’s the deal with you giving me a perfectly healthy child? Are you testing my medical skills?”

Caleb felt like he’d misheard. “How is that possible!”
“Hmph, don’t believe me, then don’t. All these games between lovers, don’t pretend to be
clueless, Mr. Davies! Don’t call me again for at least a month!”
The call was disconnected.
Caleb’s questioning gaze turned to Mrs. Davies.
Mrs. Davies’s eyes darted around, avoiding his gaze.
Sera, quick as a flash, stepped forward and hugged Caleb. “Caleb, was our son’s illness a misdiagnosis last time? That’s wonderful!”
Mrs. Davies also spoke up at the opportune moment. “One child is too lonely. Isn’t it great
to have a sibling? It’s all for the children…”
Caleb clenched his fists. “Enough!”
He closed his eyes briefly, remembering his repeated deceptions toward Aubrey.
All of it had been at his mother’s urging.
He had never wanted children; he only wanted to live a life with Aubrey, undisturbed by
anyone.
Now, he only wanted to see Aubrey as quickly as possible.
And he needed to find out who had leaked the wedding news.
