Chapter 11
“You’re a grown–up already. Yet you’re giving a child a hard time?” Dwayne said.
Dorothy was stunned. She knew he wouldn’t believe her, but hearing him take Sonia and Brenden’s side so bluntly still hurt her.
She blinked, not letting her tears fall out. “I didn’t push him.“]
Dwayne sneered, “Oh, so you’re saying a kid who’s only a few years old deliberately fell to the ground and then framed you?”
Dorothy’s lips trembled.]
She knew he wouldn’t believe her. Why bother explaining at all?]
Lowering her head, she tried her best to regain composure. “My biggest fault today is running into you. I’m free to go, aren’t I?“]]
She turned to leave.

“Stop right there,” Dwayne said.[]
She stopped in her tracks but didn’t look back.
“Brenden is just a child. Don’t make a big deal out of this.” His tone softened. “Just apologize to him.“[]
“Dwayne, forget it. It’s fine…” Sonia said, seemingly speaking up for Dorothy.
But his gaze turned even colder. “She did something wrong. Of course, she should apologize.“[]
Dorothy clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, but she could no longer feel any pain.[]
She turned around slowly, looked Dwayne in the eye, and pointed to a surveillance camera under a streetlamp nearby. “There are surveillance cameras in every corner of Tranquility Apartments. At least check them out before playing the hero.]
“If you see me do anything wrong on the surveillance footage, I’ll be more than happy to apologize. I’ll never apologize for something
I didn’t do.”
With this, she turned to leave without looking at him again.]]
Dwayne’s expression darkened as he stared at her back.
Meanwhile, Sonia panicked as she heard about the surveillance cameras. Worried that Dwayne would really pull out the footage, she grabbed his sleeve and said, “Just let go, Dwayne. Brenden isn’t hurt. Besides, I believe Dr. Acosta didn’t do it on purpose.[]
Her eyes flickered as she realized she absolutely couldn’t let Dwayne see the footage. So, she changed the subject and said, “Dwayne, Brenden will be late if we don’t hit the road. Let’s go, OK?“]
Dwayne pulled his sleeve away. “I’ve informed Alison Greenwood, the director of the kindergarten. You can go over with Brenden now. She’ll arrange everything. Now, I’m off. I’ve got a meeting.“]
He then went straight into the car.
Sonia couldn’t help but clench her fists as she watched Dwayne’s car leave, forgetting that she was still holding Brenden’s hand.
“Mommy? You’re hurting me.”
Brenden winced in pain.
Snapping back to reality, Sonia crouched down slowly, rested her hands on his shoulders, and looked at him while saying, a hint of satisfaction flashing across her gloomy eyes, “Brenden, you did great.“]
