Yeah. Mommy. I saw it with my own eyes,” Jayden said, then cast a guilty glance at Anthony. “I just wanted to listen in, see if they’d fight or something.
“But that stupid wretch suddenly opened the door and caught me. Anthony, you’re not mad at me, are you?
Anthony reached out and patted his head. “It’s okay.”
A moment later. Wyatt walked up behind them and reported. “Mrs. Lainey Russell, Mr. Anthony Russell, Mrs. Eliana Russell just came to ask for a different room key. I’ve already assigned her to the room farthest from Mr. Theodore Russell’s on the
second floor.”
Lainey clapped her hands and laughed, “Perfect. Now no one can blame us. Theodore kicked her out himself.”
She had waited a long time for this moment. On the night of the wedding, she’d deliberately had someone lock Theodore’s door from the outside, just so Eliana would experience how cold and heartless he could be–and come running to Lainey for support
But the next morning, not only had Eliana not come to her side, but she had even suggested installing floor–to–ceiling windows in Theodore’s room. After that, she had done a whole string of things Lainey had never seen coming-
Thinking of it all now. Lainey looked at Anthony, her eyes full of approval “Anthony, that little trick of yours–letting someone else take the fall–was brilliant”
Anthony let out a quiet chuckle. “I told you, I’d teach Eliana how to survive in this house. One step at a time.”
Meanwhile, in Theodore’s room on the second floor, as the minutes ticked by, the fury that had flared earlier began to settle back into his chest like a fire pushed deep underground.
He started to think, Where did Eliana go? I only said I wanted to be alone for a bit, and she really hasn’t come back?”
An emotion he couldn’t quite name wrapped around him, and he became aware of the ticking of the clock on the wall.
He had no idea how many rounds of the ticking had passed before he finally gritted his teeth, pushed himself off the couch, and made his way to the door.
The moment his hand touched the doorknob, something clicked inside him–his vision suddenly returned.
It gave him a jolt of confidence. Without hesitation, he yanked the door open.
Just then, a maid happened to be walking by with something in her hands. The sight of Theodore standing at the door
started her into a gasp.
Theodore reacted just as quickly. He pretended not to see and asked, “Who’s there?”
“M–Mr. Russell, I was just passing by, she stammered.
Not every servant in the manor was like Wyatt. Most were more like this one–ordinary people who were too scared to get dlose to him
Theodore seized the moment. “Tell me, do you know where Eliana went?”
The maid answered right away, “Mrs. Russell is in the room to your right.”
“Really? The first one?”

“N–No, the last one down the hall.”
Theodore fell silent, his eyes wide with a barely–contained fury. At that, the maid grew anxious and added quickly. “Mr. Russell, may I go now? I still have to change her pillow and sheets.”
Theodore thought. So she’s planning to sleep in another room? All I said was I needed some time alone. I didn’t say I wanted to spend the night by myself.
He paused for a moment and then asked, “Did she ask for the room herself?”
Yes, sir. I heard Mrs. Russell personally went to Wyatt for the key,” the maid replied.
Theodore pondered, I see. So she’s decided to turn her back on me too, huh?‘
His hand clenched tighter around the doorframe. As the last bit of his restored vision faded back into darkness, he slammed the door shut with a heavy thud.
The next morning, in the second–floor guest room, Eliana had actually gotten a decent night’s sleep for once. She had no idea whether Theodore had cooled off or not.
But since she had work soon, she had no choice but to brace herself and head back to his room. After all, all her clothes and makeup were still there.
The moment she stepped through the door, she was met with Theodore’s freezing stare that pinned her in place. “So you finally decided to come back?” Theodore questioned.
