- RogueÂ
Everything fell silent between them, the only sound that remained was their heavy breathing. Unknown to them, Aries stood on the roof of an abandoned house. He had witnessed everything, from the group of werewolves that jumped out of the window to the group that dashed into the woods in front of Keshton’s eyes. He silently watched everything unfold between Sibyl and Keshton. Sibyl stared at Keshton in disbelief and shook her head. “You have seen their faces and know that they are your people, yet you are protecting them.” She took a step back, recalling that she had been in Kaha’s place three months ago when she had been sold by her brother and Keshton had thrown her into the brothel. She might have ended up like Kaha, but she escaped that fate because Keshton had taken a liking to her. “Sibyl,” for the first time, Keshton saw fear in her eyes. “Why are you moving away from me?” He watched her retreat a few steps from him as her face paled. “Sibyl, stop…” “DON’T COME CLOSER TO ME!” Sibyl screamed out of fear, causing Keshton to stop in his tracks. “How did I forget that you were also a rogue?” A fresh tear rolled down her cheek. “You are also one of them.” “What the f**k are you saying?” Keshton closed the distance between them and grabbed her arms tightly. “I am your Keshton. The one you love. Let’s calm down and talk later, okay?” He slowly took her hand. “Let’s go to my pack,” he began to pull her toward him. Sibyl’s heart dropped at the mention of going to his pack. “NO!” she pulled her hand back and moved away from him. “I will not go to that rogue pack. I will not go with you.” Her whole body was drenched in sweat and was cold with fear. “I dare you to change your mind!” Keshton’s face darkened. “Until yesterday, you were ready for everything, but suddenly you’re playing with me! Sibyl, do you think my feelings for you are a joke?!” He clenched her jaw, his breathing heavy and angry, but he slowly loosened his grip. “Please don’t act like this, Sibyl. Please become the old Sibyl I had until yesterday.” He cupped her face with both hands lovingly and kissed her lips. “I love you,” he whispered. Sibyl closed her eyes, tears spilling down her cheeks at his confession. “I’m afraid I can’t return your love, Keshton.” She did not return his kiss. Keshton broke the kiss and locked eyes with her. “What are you saying? I know you love me. I will give you the safe haven you crave.” His face lost all color when she shook her head. Yes, she loved him. So terribly that even at this point she wanted to hug him, kiss him, and never him but she could not confess that to him. His underground brothel, the rogues, their cruelty, Kaha’s death, and the dead baby in her arms brought Sibyl back to the truth of her life. The truth where her life had been ruined by rogues years ago. She had been blinded and became infertile because of them, “I have just now realized there is no such thing as a safe haven in this world. And even if there were, I could never find it with you.” “Why?” Keshton’s heart broke, his voice trembling. “Is it because I am a rogue?” More tears spilled from her eyes, confirming Keshton’s worst fears. “I can’t forget anything, Keshton. You remind me of that brothel, Kaha’s death, and my failure to protect this innocent life,” she sobbed, adding, “I can’t seem to look you in the Keshton stood frozen, his heart bleeding with each word that declared he had lost her. She was so terrified of him that she couldn’t even bear to look him in the eye. He took a step closer and gently made her look at him. “You want me to vanish from your life, don’t you?” He touched her face. Sibyl cried harder, unable to say a thing. Keshton’s heart was stabbed by her silent rejection. Her wolf howled in distress and pain and for the first time in his life Keshton was hated so much because of his identity. “Your response to my confession of love was going to be no from the beginning right?” he murmured. Sibyl clenched the baby in her hand tighter. He was getting it all wrong. “You never loved me. So from now on, I will not appear in front of you.” He wiped her tears away and leaned in for one last kiss. “Now there will be no Keshton in Sibyl’s life.”Â
