When Eliana arrived at the dining room downstairs, she happened to overhear a conversation between Lainey and Anthony
Lainey was fuming “Honey, you didn’t even think to hit back?”
Anthony replied in a low voice, “He’s my brother, after all”
“You’ve never learned to stand up for yourself. That’s why he broke your leg” Lainey shot back.
Eliana stepped forward and asked, “Anthony, are you alright?”
Hearing her voice, Lainey shot her a glare filled with fury, “Does my son look alright to you?”
“Mom, Anthony said, trying to calm her, “Eliana is just worried about me. Don’t take it out on her”
After placating Lainey, he turned to Eliana with his usual gentleness. “It was my fault, really, I shouldn’t have provoked Theodore
Seeing how he remained composed despite being hit, Eliana couldn’t help but feel a twinge of admiration. She spoke up, “Can you tell me what happened?”
Anthony gave a bitter laugh. “I happened to pass by Theodore’s room and saw that your food tray had been kicked over. I tried to tell him to be nice, and, well, things escalated.”
Eliana thought, ‘So that’s what happened?
Under Lainey’s disapproving stare, Eliana felt a little guilty. She said, “I’m sorry. We had a bit of a fight earlier. I didn’t mean for you to get caught up in it.”

Anthony turned his eyes to Eliana. “Eliana, would you mind helping me? After all, I got this beating because of you. If Alice sees me like this tomorrow, she might cry”
Eliana hesitated, “I… I don’t think that’s appropriate”
Lainey immediately snapped, “Come on, my son gets hit for your sake, and now you’re too delicate to help him?”
Eliana sighed inwardly, ‘Well, if even his mother isn’t objecting, it would be awkward to say no, especially with so many people watching. I guess I’ll just play nurse this once!
While she applied the ointment, Anthony never took his eyes off her, his gaze warm and unwavering, It made Eliana think, Any woman would melt under a look like that!
But as soon as the thought surfaced, a flash of Theodore’s fierce, possessive eyes swept through her mind, snapping her back to her senses.
The next second, she put the ointment down and said, “It’s done”

After dinner, Lainey didn’t take her eyes off Eliana until she saw her head upstairs. Lainey then leaned toward Anthony and asked in a low voice, “What if Eliana asks Theodore what really happened? We’ll be exposed.”

He knew Theodore too well. A man so proud like him would never bring up Alice in front of Eliana. After all, Alice would remind Theodore of lingering love as well as shame.
Standing in front of the bedroom door, Eliana took a deep breath and told herself, This all started because of me. With that, she reached for the doorknob. This time, the door wasn’t locked.
The atmosphere inside was so oppressive that it sent a shiver down Eliana’s spine. Theodore was seated in a chair, rubbing his eyes with his long fingers. His vision lasted longer than usual today, but the strain had left his eyes aching.
He paused for a brief second when he heard the door open. But the memory of Eliana’s frightened expression after he hit Anthony resurfaced at once. His lips pressed into a thin line, and he made a point of ignoring her.
