Chapter 245
Megan pinched her nose, glancing around deliberately. “Ugh, who let one rip? The s
a stench is unbearable.”
Delilah fumed as they walked away without a backward glance. She was about to chase after them when Marcus, now towed back by the speedboat, called out, “Della, I turn my back for a while, and you’re picking fights with Eliana again?”
Delilah glared at Eliana’s retreating figure. “She dared ignore me. Teach her a lesson for me!”
“Enough,” Marcus snapped. Realizing diplomacy was hopeless, he resolved to keep Delilah under close watch to prevent further trouble.
That afternoon, Theodore finally carved out time for the promised dive. After securing Eliana’s gear, they boarded a speedboat, waiting for calm seas to descend.
Franco, worried, insisted two dive instructors accompany them.
On deck, Theodore did a final check. “Ready?”
“Ready.” Eliana nodded.
With practiced ease, Theodore bit down on his respirator, leaned back, and sliced into the water with flawless form.
Eliana took a deep breath, mimicked his movements, and plunged in smoothly. Then, the instructors followed.
Right then, two figures surfaced nearby.
Delilah’s sharp eyes landed on Theodore’s watch left aboard. She tugged Marcus‘ arm. “Theodore is diving. Let’s catch up!”
Marcus frowned, “Della, we’re low on oxygen. We need to surface now.”
Delilah’s eyes glittered with obsession. “I don’t care. Diving with Theodore is the most romantic thing ever!” Before Marcus could stop her, she clamped the respirator between her teeth and vanished beneath the waves.
“Della!” Marcus shouted, chasing after her.
Two minutes later, just as Delilah was closing in on Theodore, her équipment suddenly blared an oxygen warning.
She dismissed it as another false alarm until a crushing suffocation seized her lungs. Panicked, she flailed underwater, desperately reaching for Marcus. But Marcus was in no position to help. His oxygen had run out.
Eliana glanced back and spotted the struggling figures. Though she couldn’t make out who they were, she tapped Theodore’s shoulder. When he turned, she pointed toward the drowning pair. Theodore immediately signaled the two instructors to assist.
Nodding, the instructors swam toward Marcus and Delilah.
Moments later, amid splashing, Marcus and Delilah were hauled onto the speedboat. Exhausted but professional, the instructors began administering
CPR.
Marcus regained consciousness first, coughing up/seawater. Seeing Delilah’s pale face, he shook her. “Della! Della!”
When her eyelids finally fluttered open, Marcus/exhaled in relief. Turning to the instructors, he said, “Thank you for saving us.”
“Mr. Russell ordered us to help,” one instructor replied. “We need to rejoin him and Mrs. Russell now.” With that, they dove back in.
Alone on the boat, Marcus stared at the deceptively calm ocean, its surface hiding infinite dangers. A shiver ran down his spine. He thought, ‘Is this instant retribution? Della pushed Eliana yesterday, and today we both tasted death.‘

Delilah, however, embodied the phrase “ignorance is bliss.” Weak but grinning, she said, “Theodore saved us. Let’s wait here to thank him.”
Meanwhile, beneath the waves, Eliana had already forgotten the incident, utterly enchanted by the underwater wonderland.
