Chapter 138
Byron thoughtfully brought Sylvia a flower basket filled with candies. But the moment he presented it, she scolded him. His handsome face instantly
darkened.
I’m going to teach Zack a lesson when I get back! That brat was the one who came up with the terrible idea!‘ he thought.
Of course, and that little rascal, Ruby. But he could never bring himself to lay a finger on his precious baby girl.
Byron fixed his piercing gaze on Sylvia. “Are you being bullied at work?”
“Something’s not right,” Byron thought. “Sylvia would never snap at me without a reason.”
“None of your business,” Sylvia blurted out instinctively.
This only solidified Byron’s suspicions.
“It must be something at the company!” Byron thought.
His eyes turned icy as he strode toward the entrance. “Let me see who’s been bullying you!”
Sylvia panicked and rushed after him. “None of your business! Get back now!”
Byron grabbed Sylvia’s arm, his whole body turning icy. “What do you mean by none of my business? You’re taking your anger out on me–how could it not involve me?”
“Could it be Dillán?” Byron thought angrily to himself.
Furious, Byron stormed to the elevator. Whatever the reason, he was determined to get to the bottom of it–he wouldn’t let Sylvia suffer such
humiliation!
Sylvia took a deep breath. She couldn’t let Byron act recklessly now; it would ruin her plans. After a moment’s thought, she resorted to her usual trick. Gently stroking his cheek, her voice soft and coaxing, she said, “I’m fine, honey. Go home now.”
Byron turned his face away, his expression icy.
Byron thought, “Like I’d fall for that! She pulls this same old trick every other day–what’s the point? Has she already forgotten how she just yelled at
me?”
After a moment’s hesitation, Byron turned back and said, “Sylvia, these flowers… are you going to take them or not? If you accept them, I’ll do as you
say.”
Sylvia let out a helpless sigh. “Fine, I like it. I’ll take it. Happy now?”
She took the oversized flower basket, her reluctance evident.
“Do you really like it?” Byron’s heart skipped a beat, a blush creeping onto his cheeks. “What else would you like? I’ll get it for you,” he said eagerly.
“Please, just stop trying so hard. I don’t want anything from you.”
Sylvia shot him a cool glance, her annoyance starting to show.
Sylvia thought bitterly, “This guy is so full of himself. Does he seriously think that doing a few nice things now could ever make up for all the mistakes he made in the past?”
With that, Sylvia grabbed the flower basket, headed straight to her car, and drove off.
Byron watched her car drive away. His gaze darkened for a moment, but then a faint smile tugged at his lips.

Chapter 138
Byron thought to himself, “Zack and Ruby are right—women really do need to be pampered! Even though she’s still giving me the cold shoulder, she did accept my gift in the end.”
Little did Byron know that halfway home, Sylvia rolled down her window and tossed the flower basket straight into a roadside trash can.
Sylvia drove home on the weekend, planning to treat Ruby to a nice meal, only to realize upon arrival that Angel had already picked her up.
“Auntie, where are we going?” Ruby asked cheerfully from her seat in the car.
Angel had been swamped with filming lately. The moment she finally managed to find some free time today, the wasted no time picking up Ruby.
“Let’s go play with your brother, Zack,” Angel said.
“Yay! Yay!” Ruby giggled, her adorable smile lighting up her face.
Angel’s car pulled into the Blair family mansion’s garage.
In the living room, Liana was chatting animatedly with Joanna.
“Auntie, now I get how Sylvia’s been so well–off all these years–turns out she’s had Dillan backing her.”
Liana gasped, “Dillan? Isn’t he that so–called ‘Master Cameron‘ everyone’s been buzzing about online?”
“Yeah, that’s him,” Joanna said with a smirk. “Sylvia and Master Cameron are from the same village. After her divorce, she’s been living off his money. She even used to work for him as a maid, and now she still clings to him.”
Liana’s face darkened instantly. “I never knew Sylvia was such a despicable person! Good thing we kicked her out of the family, otherwise, Byron would’ve been dragged down with her too!”
Joanna smiled smugly. Though she was currently cozying up to Dillan, what she truly coveted was becoming the young mistress of the Blair family.
She now believed she was finally worthy of Byron; after all, she wasn’t just a showbiz star anymore but also the vice chairwoman of a film production
company.
“Joanna, could you stop feeding my mother these ridiculous rumors? What business are Sylvia’s affairs of yours? Always badmouthing people behind their backs–aren’t you afraid karma will bite you in the ass?”
Just as Joanna was about to add fuel to the fire, a cold voice cut in from the doorway.
Joanna looked up, her face instantly flushing crimson with embarrassment.
Angel entered, holding Ruby’s hand.
Angel and Joanna used to be best of friends, but ever since Joanna started spreading nasty rumors about Sylvia, Angel felt sick to her stomach every time she saw her. “I must have been out of my mind to ever believe her,” Angel thought bitterly.
“Angel,” Joanna insisted defensively, “I’m telling the truth. If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do.”
Noticing that Angel and Sylvia had gotten closer lately, Joanna shot Ruby a sharp look and sneered, “Angel, how could you bring Sylvia’s daughter here? Aren’t you just asking to piss off your mom?”
Sure enough, after hearing Joanna’s words, Liana grew even angrier. She shot up from the couch and snapped, “Angel, what do you mean by that? Are you trying to drive me mad?”
Angel shot Liana a cool glance. “I brought Ruby to see Zack. If you’re uncomfortable, just pretend you didn’t see us.”
Ruby’s little face puckered with a pitiful pout as she gently tugged at Angel’s sleeve. “Auntie, can we go?” she whispered.
Angel gently pinched Ruby’s cheek and led her inside. “Don’t be afraid, Ruby. No one can bully you while I’m here. Your dad will be home tonight. Let’s

see who dares to say a word then.”
With that, Angel shot Liana a meaningful look.
Liana froze for a moment. “Angel, what do
you mean by that?” she asked, stunned. “Who is Ruby’s father?”
Angel said calmly, “Mom, it seems Byron hasn’t told you everything. Ruby is his daughter. If you kick her out, don’t you think he’ll totally lose it when he
gets
back?”
Liana was speechless with shock for a long moment. “What? You… You must be mistaken, right?” she stammered.
“You should ask my brother.” Angel turned to Joanna with a pointed look. “You knew about this, didn’t you? Why didn’t you mention it?”
Liana stared at Joanna in stunned disbelief. “Joanna… Is what she said really true?”
Joanna bit her lip and gave a reluctant nod.
Liana sat frozen, then suddenly remembered Ruby, who had already gone upstairs. Her lips trembled as she murmured to herself in disbelief, “She… She’s really the Blair family’s own flesh and blood? My… My granddaughter?”
