Opal Restaurant’s signature soup indeed lived up to its reputation. After taking a few sips, she felt a warmness spread- ing through her entire stomach, and the feeling was fantastic.
People really should be good to themselves.
Being good to others might go unrewarded, but being good to themselves always guaranteed rewards–in the most straightforward way possible.

There was an investment decision meeting in the afternoon.
It was Bianca’s first time joining an investment decision meeting as the director of Investment Division III.
Everyone was curious about how capable she was.
Right after the meeting started, she introduced herself as a Ph.D. in Economics from Huffman Business School in Herrendia.
The meeting room erupted in awe at once.
They finally knew why Rodrick had personally gone abroad to recruit her.
Given her highly educated background, she had every right to parachute into Royarch Capital.
Huffman Business School in Herrendia was top–notch in the world.
Only a few could earn a Ph.D. in Economics from Huffman Business School.
Not to mention she was such a stunning beauty.
Losing to her wasn’t embarrassing.
Some people had initially been indignant about her treatment, but now began to waver.
Everyone gravitated toward capable people, and they were no exception.

After all, Britney only had an undergraduate degree from a local university. She wasn’t even a postgraduate. How could she ever be compared to Bianca?
As usual, Britney focused intently on making meeting notes.
However, her fingers paused in mid–air for a few seconds as she typed the words “Huffman Business School“,
She had once received their offer.

But to help Rodrick with his career, she had given up on the opportunity.
Because of this, her college professor still refused to talk to her to this day.
Little did she know that years later, she’d lose out because of the choice she had made back then.

After Bianca’s self–introduction, no one voiced any objection when Rodrick announced her leadership in the project with the Ruiz Group.
It was like the project was secured through her efforts.
How ironic.
Furious, Katheryn texted Britney, “How come Ms. Webster gets the project?”
She kept texting Britney, seething with rage.
“You nearly drank yourself to death to secure the deal! This is so unfair!”
“How could Mr. Livingston be so biased?”
“I don’t get it. I really don’t get it!”
“I’m about to lose it!”
Britney texted her back, soothing her, “Calm down. It’s fine. None of this matters anymore.”
She stepped out of the way of Rodrick and Bianca after loving him for seven years. A project was nothing.
But Katheryn was still furious.
“But that project is your painstaking effort. Does Mr. Livingston know you lost your baby because of it?”
Britney had been trying her best to ignore the ache in her chest. However, the words “your baby” cracked her open all over again.
The harsh white light above her head, the reek of disinfectant, and the bone–deep cold after the procedure…
How could she ever forget any of that?
She’d remembered the pain when her flesh and blood was removed from her forever.
Now that she thought about it, maybe her baby had sensed something all along.
So, her baby had come and left quietly, leaving no trace behind.
Sometimes she wondered–maybe the baby was only meant to be here long enough to shake her awake, to make her re- alize she needed to walk away from the seven–year mistake.
After the meeting ended, Bianca asked Katheryn for a copy of the meeting notes.
Still furious, Katheryn spat, “They aren’t ready yet.”
