“No worries. Take your time. You can send them to me once you sort them out.”
“I’m swamped, OK? I’ve got no time to sort them out.”
Frowning, Bianca glanced at Katheryn.
But Katheryn just focused on cleaning up the meeting room with Britney, not giving a damn about her reaction.
After Bianca left, Britney reminded Katheryn patiently, “Katheryn, remember–never let your personal feelings affect your work. It’s not allowed at Royarch Capital. If you want a career here, don’t offend anyone, especially those who are above your pay grade.”
Katheryn pouted. “I’m just upset about how they treat you. It’s so unfair.”
“Fairness is irrelevant here.” Britney became expressionless again.
For her, love wasn’t some trade.
She chose to be good to Rodrick.
It was his choice how to respond to her kindness.
She wouldn’t ask for his kindness in return because it was pointless.
She loved him, and that was why she willingly gave up on everything–her career and the chance of studying overseas included–to support him.
The result was far from satisfactory, but she never regretted it.
The wise move was to leave as soon as possible, leaving the mess behind. She knew one thing pretty clearly–if she was trapped in the past, she’d become her own worst enemy in life.
But it would be a lie to say she wasn’t exhausted or upset when facing the end of her relationship with Rodrick.
Well, it was fine.
Given time, she’d heal.
Before clocking out, Britney texted Bianca, “All the Investment Division III project files are organized. If you want, I can swing by at any time.”
Bianca replied very quickly, “Ms. Harrington, thank you. Could you take them to Rod’s office? I just came back to the country and am still new to the domestic business environment. I need his guidance.”

Bianca called him “Rod” so intimately.
And he had never issued any objections.
But Britney remembered how much he hated it when people didn’t use proper titles at work.
She had always kept that in mind during the past seven years, addressing him as Mr. Livingston whether in company or at business dinners.
She had been the perfect example of a dutiful, disciplined employee.
And see who had become the biggest joke?
Only now did she realize Rodrick’s rules were set for outsiders.
Like the rest of the people in the company, she was an outsider, too.
He never had any rules for the one he loved.
After replying “OK” to Bianca, she stacked the prepared project documents with the files that needed Rodrick’s signa- ture, ready to deliver them altogether to his office.
Before standing up, she pulled out her signed resignation letter from the drawer and put it in that stack of documents.
Though she didn’t know if he would sign, procedures had to be followed.
With the thick stack of documents in her arms, she walked toward his office.
As usual, she knocked on the door and then pushed it open to enter.
It was the only privilege Rodrick had granted her.
She was his secretary and needed to report to him frequently. To save time, he had said she could enter his office right after knocking on the door.
It had long become her habit.
This time, she did the same.
But before she could say anything, the scene in front of her ripped her heart open.
Bianca was sitting on Rodrick’s desk, her upper body leaning toward him.
His face was only centimeters away from her breasts…
They were unbelievably intimate.
“Ms. Harrington…”
