Chapter 17
But Rodrick was exceptionally calm. “Randell still hasn’t given up yet?”
“You’re saying… Randell has been trying to poach Britney?” Edward was stunned.
“Yes,” Rodrick said firmly with a nod. “But he won’t succeed. Britney will never agree.”
Edward thought so, too. He scoffed, “Of course. Why would she leave Royarch Capital?”
Regardless of anything else, she’d be here as long as Rodrick was here.
“Britney is literally the most scheming woman I’ve ever seen. If you ask me, I think she deliberately asked Randell to meet her at Crescent Restaurant. She wanted me to bump into them and tell you all about it, so you’d think she was thinking about jumping ship. Her ultimate goal was for you to beg her to stay.”
Edward sounded so certain, as if he had seen through her.
“She’s probably bitter that you chose Bianca to be the director over her. Can she be pettier? Doesn’t she know men hate women when they act all jealous and calculating? The more stunts she pulls, the more she’ll push you away.
“She really doesn’t know her place, does she? How pathetic–comparing herself to Bianca. I mean, anyone who isn’t stupid will choose Bianca over her.”
Rodrick, however, didn’t have time for this. He replied perfunctorily before hanging up.
As he flipped through the documents requiring his signature, he spotted Britney’s resignation letter at once.
He frowned imperceptibly.
Then he put it aside, ignoring it, and continued to work.

After a pleasant chat with Randell, Britney was in a good mood. As she came back home, she bought a bouquet for herself in the flower shop downstairs.
Upon entering the apartment, she realized she didn’t have vase.
Her good mood was slightly affected as she looked around, only to realize that nothing here belonged to her.
She found a paper box, put all the documents on the dining table inside, and finally cleared the table.
After some searching, she finally found something to be used as a vase.
It was a trophy awarded to Royarch Capital’s most outstanding employee.
Rodrick had presented it to her personally.

She had always treasured it.
Once, Rhonda got drunk and stayed the night here. In the middle of the night, she got up and grabbed the trophy, about to throw up into it.
Britney immediately snatched it back. She’d rather Rhonda vomit on the bed.
She fetched some water and arranged the flowers in the trophy.
After staring at it for a while, she murmured to herself, “Finally, it’s good for something.”
She decided to develop a habit of turning off her phone before going to sleep, so she had a good night’s sleep.
At 9:00 a.m., she arrived at the office on time.
Her colleagues were a bit surprised upon seeing her. Normally, she was the first to arrive.
Besides, instead of her usual rigid professional attire, she was wearing a light–colored blouse and skirt today.
“Ms. Harrington, you seem different today,” someone couldn’t help but say.
Britney smiled, “How so?”
“You’re pretty.”
That was an understatement. In fact, she was very pretty.
હ
Though she wore only light makeup, her aura had completely changed.
She was fresh–faced and radiant, and her appeal, though understated, was definitely gentle and charming.
In short, she was a classic beauty, captivating to both men and women.
“Thank you.” Britney was in an even better mood.
She had already had breakfast on her way here, so she went to the pantry to fetch some water for her stomach medicine.
But just as she walked to the door, she heard whispers from inside.
