Chapter 20
Drenched in cold sweat, she called the hotel’s front desk, wanting some painkillers and sanitary products.
The hotel staff was startled by her ghastly pale face as she opened the door.
“Ms. Harrington, do you want us to send you to the hospital?”
She shook her head. “That won’t be necessary. Some painkillers should do the trick.”
But the staff still seemed a bit worried. “Alright. If you don’t feel good, do call the front desk in time.”
“Alright. I will.”
Though she said this, she managed to go through the night without asking for anyone’s help.
But she still seemed terrible the next morning when she got up. Even the light makeup was to no avail.
Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she could only hope that Rodrick wouldn’t find fault with her when he saw her face. After all, he hated the most when his employees worked with low energy and zero enthusiasm.
Since she was still on stomach medication, she checked the time before going downstairs to fetch some food from the hotel restaurant.
As she stepped out of the elevator, Rodrick and Bianca had just finished having breakfast and were leaving.
The three all stood in place, no one saying a word.
After a few seconds, Bianca greeted Britney, breaking the silence, “Hey, Ms. Harrington. Did you just get up? I’m afraid it’s a bit late. There isn’t much food left in the restaurant.”
Britney said flatly, “Yeah, it’s indeed a bit late.”
Rodrick didn’t even glance at her.
After taking a look outside, he turned to Bianca and said, his voice low and gentle, “It’s raining outside. I think it’s gonna get colder in a while. Do you want me to accompany you to fetch a coat?”
“OK.” Bianca nodded at Britney before leaving with him.
Once again, Rodrick proved that he could be considerate when he wanted to.
Britney stood in place in a daze for a few seconds. She had never seen this side of him.
Bianca wasn’t lying–there wasn’t much food left in the restaurant.
She fetched two slices of bread to make do. Just as she was about to sit down, Rodrick called her.

She answered.
The earlier gentleness in his voice was replaced by coldness. “Come out.”
“Now?” she asked hesitantly, glancing at the slices of bread she was holding.
“Or what? Do you want us to wait for you?” His tone was harsh.
After a moment of silence, she said, “Alright.”

Then she asked the waiter for a takeaway bag, stuffed the bread into it, and placed the bag in her purse. By the time she rushed to the hotel entrance, Rodrick and Bianca were already in the car.
They sat in the backseat, leaving the passenger seat for her.
She lowered her head, masking the emotions in her eyes, and sat in the passenger seat in silence.
Just as the car door was closed, Rodrick urged the driver to start the car. It seemed he had grown impatient from wait- ing.
The bread in her bag was warm, but she didn’t have a chance to eat.
Because he hated it when someone ate in the car.
Being his secretary for seven years, she knew his preferences inside out.
Over the years, it had become her habit to cater to his preferences almost instinctively.
Even though her stomach was acting up, she really needed to eat something.
Of course, Rodrick didn’t give her a chance to eat anyway.
He asked about the project straightforwardly, “How did you negotiate with Mr. Garrison before?”
