As soon as she walked out of the office, Katheryn couldn’t help but pat her chest hard.
I was almost scared to death by the “Living King of Hell“!
Slipped away to the bathroom and quietly called Britney.
“Britney, why didn’t you come to work today?” Katheryn asked her in a low voice.
Britney paused and asked, “Did Mr. Livingston ask me?”
“Did ask, but didn’t say anything else.”
Maybe it was just a casual question, that’s how Britney understood it.
After all, she’d been treated like an all–purpose secretary for seven years. It was only natural to feel a bit weird when she suddenly wasn’t around.
“These days I had something to do, so I couldn’t come to the office.” That’s what Britney told Katheryn.
Katheryn asked, “Should we tell Mr. Livingston?”
“Don’t need to.”
And there was no need

I was busy until late at night and only then got the materials organized.
Britney rubbed her sore neck and picked up her phone to check the time.
It was already past twelve.
I was just focused on organizing case files, had my phone on silent, and only just noticed there were messages on WhatsApp.
She clicked in and found that someone had @ed her in the company group.
It was Rodrick.
The familiar name made Britney’s eyebrows twitch.
But after seeing the message clearly, I just gave a self–mocking, silent laugh.
Rodrick was @-ing her.
He just @‘d everyone from Royarch Capital in the group.
The notice said that to celebrate Director Bianca from Division Three joining Royarch Capital and landing the first major project, everyone in the company was invited to go to Sapphire Hot Springs Resort for a two–day team building after work next Friday.
Here was a bunch of cheers, all thanking Rodrick and Bianca.
Britney knew this world was real, and kissing up and kicking down was just human nature.

It seemed like they all forgot, Aethon Tech was a project she spent over half a year running back and forth to finally sign.
But now it became Bianca’s achievement.
Rodrick forgot too.
Britney didn’t hesitate to leave the company group, just wanted some
peace.
“Bree, why weren’t you asleep yet?”
It was probably the faint light from the phone that affected Lila’s not- so–good sleep, and she spoke to Britney.
“Getting ready to sleep, Mom, you should rest early too.” Britney quickly put away her phone and lay quietly on the companion bed.
The companion bed was half as low as the hospital bed.
To make it easier to take care of Lila, Britney put the companion bed next to the hospital bed.
Lila could reach out and touch Britney’s head.
She gently patted Britney’s head like she used to.
Britney bit her lip hard in the dark so she wouldn’t cry out, but tears still slid silently from the corners of her eyes.
She was glad the lights in the ward weren’t on right now.
Lila’s voice was very soft, but more than that, it was weak. “Bree, could you ask Mr. Livingston to come to the hospital?”
Britney, with her voice almost choking, said, “He… was busy.”
