After curling up in bed for a long time, she finally felt better. Soon, sleepiness washed over her.
Maybe a good sleep would help.
Yet she was jolted awake by the ringtone right after she drifted off.
This ringtone was exclusively for Rodrick.
She used to be thrilled when hearing this, but now, it had become torment.
Not wanting to answer, she stared at his name on the screen, letting the phone ring.
She knew Rodrick was never a patient man. He’d never call her again if she didn’t answer.
To her surprise, that rule no longer applied.
He called her again.
And this time, she must answer.
“What’s up, Mr. Livingston?” Her tone was cold and distant.
For a second, Rodrick thought he had dialed the wrong number.
Frowning, he glanced at the screen to make sure it was her number before asking, “Where are you?”
“I don’t feel well, so I’m gonna stay at home. You guys have fun.”
After saying this, Britney was about to hang up.
Just then, she heard Bianca’s voice.
“Ms. Harrington isn’t coming? Rod, does that mean she doesn’t welcome me?”
Then Rodrick said to the phone, his voice icier than ever, “Britney, stop putting on airs. Everyone else’s here. Are you saying you’re special?”
“I…”
“You have twenty minutes. If I don’t see you after that, don’t bother coming to the office ever again.”
He hung up decisively after saying this.
Listening to the dial tone, Britney suddenly wanted to laugh.
Rodrick actually threatened to fire her just because she missed a welcome party.

Were all her years of sacrifice and dedication meaningless?
Did her alcohol–induced stomach ulcers count for nothing?

When Britney arrived at Celestia Club, the party was in full swing.
Edward was rallying the group to pressure Rodrick and Bianca to drink.

Rodrick said, the earlier sharpness in his tone completely replaced by indulgence, “Cut it out.”
“Rodrick, come on! Stop ruining the party, OK? Our glasses are already empty. You won’t let us down, right?”
Before Rodrick could say anything, Bianca picked up her glass and smiled at him gracefully, “Rod, it’s just a drink. Humor me, will you?”
Under everyone’s expectant gazes, Rodrick raised his glass of tea.
He was so close to Bianca that her arm brushed against his in the next second. At the same time, he looked up and met the gaze of Britney standing at the door.
Their eyes were locked for a second before he looked away coldly, leaned closer to Bianca, and raised his glass.
Edward took out his phone to snap a photo, wanting to share it with his friends. Yet, in his excitement, he accidentally bumped into Bianca.
“Watch out.”
Rodrick, who was next to her, instinctively reached out to steady her.
She stumbled into his embrace.
The atmosphere in the room peaked.
From where Britney was standing, they seemed like a loving couple, embracing each other.
Weird, though–she didn’t feel a thing.
Perhaps she had already become numb.
It was just that her stomach churned violently.
Just then, a gasp rang out, cutting through the air.
It was Katheryn.
At the sight of Britney, she exclaimed, “Britney, what are you doing here? You felt unwell, right? Why aren’t you resting at home?”
Britney’s concern seemed so out of place in the private room’s cheerful vibe.

Still in Rodrick’s arms, Bianca looked up at Britney and smiled sweetly, “Hey, Ms. Harrington. You’re here. We’re all waiting for you. Come on in.”
“Sorry. Something came up.”
Britney walked into the private room, looking calm and composed.
