Rodrick didn’t move at all, and the way he looked at her was deeper and more intense than ever before.
Before Britney couldn’t take it anymore, Rodrick spoke up again, kind of like a reminder but also a warning, “Britney, the Ortega family is really picky about family background, they look down on people like you. I think you should give up on those thoughts as soon as possible and just stay put at Royarch Capital.”
Britney froze for a while before she realized what he meant by those words.
She was hinting that she wanted to climb up the Ortega family’s social ladder.
A sudden burst of anger came up, and Britney couldn’t help but ask Rodrick, “Is that how you see me? Is that what you think of me?”
“Isn’t that exactly what you did?” he said, super sarcastic. “You kept hanging out with Federico, thought you found a new way out, and then you got all cocky and dared to quit on me.”
The man’s eyes rolled with a dark, unfathomable storm, and a mocking smile slowly appeared. “Britney, do you know what it meant to leave me?”
Rodrick’s voice was already at rock bottom, “Without my permission, no one in Riverton would dare to hire you! Not even Federico! Try it if you don’t believe me. Without me, you won’t be able to get by in Riverton at all! You’ll be back begging me in less than three days!”
He kept pressing closer, and his dark eyes were all cold and distant.

Britney just stood there and looked at him calmly.
It was like she wanted to remember his fierce look right now, so she could remind herself of how ruthless the man was whenever she
wanted to look back later.
When the tension was at its peak, Britney finally spoke, her tone calm but extra firm, “Then go ahead and try. See if I come back to beg you.”

“Britney, I was looking for you for a long time!”
The one who contacted her was Mr. Colton from Nexus Capital, one of Royarch Capital’s partners.
“Mr. Colton, long time no see.” Britney greeted him politely.
Mr. Colton reached out and patted Britney on the shoulder, “It’s been a long time, Britney, and you got even prettier!”
“Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Colton.” Britney made small talk with him while subtly putting some distance between them.
This Mr. Colton was pretty notorious in the circle, especially greedy and lecherous.
He just had a good eye and made money on every investment. Over the years, he really built up quite a bit of wealth, so people in the industry had to show him some respect.
When the two companies first got in touch, Mr. Colton kept hinting at Britney in all sorts of ways.
