Rodrick said, “Mr. Ruiz, this is Bianca Webster, the director of Royarch Capital’s Investment Division III. Bianca, meet Mr. Ruiz from the Ruiz Group. He’s an old friend of ours.”
Bianca stepped forward and shook hands with Phillip. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Ruiz.”
“Likewise, Ms. Webster.”
Phillip had been Rodrick’s business partner long enough to know Royarch Capital’s internal affairs.
It had been less than a year after Investment Division III’s establishment, and the director position had remained va- cant. Everyone had assumed it was reserved for Britney.
After all, she had been overseeing the division’s projects throughout this whole time.
Despite holding dual roles, she pushed the division to become Royarch Capital’s top–performing unit within a year. Of course, her commitment was unmatched by any other.
As it turned out, she had just paved the way for someone else to profit.
Even Phillip felt a bit sorry for her.
Rodrick continued, “Mr. Ruiz, Bianca will handle the project we’re currently working on from now on. That’s why I brought her over to introduce her to you.”
Phillip instinctively frowned. “But Ms. Harrington has always been my point person. This is…”
Rodrick said dismissively, “Britney is just my secretary. I assigned the project to her because Bianca was overseas back then. Now, it’s time for Britney to step down. It’s never her project anyway.”
After a pause, he added to reassure Phillip, “Mr. Ruiz, rest assured. Bianca holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Huffman Business School in Herrendia, and she used to work at Univa Bank, a top–tier bank overseas. I paid top dollar to final- ly get her to be part of my team. Her expertise is unparalleled.”
Phillip wasn’t worried about expertise at all. He just felt bad for Britney.
He knew how hard she had worked on that project.
After all she had sacrificed, Rodrick brutally handed it to someone else, and even he, an outsider, felt a bit indignant.
To his surprise, Britney seemed exceptionally calm.
Rodrick made a point of showing up here, personally introducing Phillip to Bianca. It was a clear show of support that said “I’ve got her back“.
Obviously, Rodrick cared about Bianca a lot.

288 Vouchers
She had never been privileged to receive such treatment from him before.
She said calmly, “I’ll sort out the project documents a soon as possible and give them to you, Ms. Webster.”
“Thank you, Ms. Harrington,” Bianca smiled politely.
She nodded, stood up, grabbed her bag, and said to Phillip, “Mr. Ruiz, I’ll get out of your hair while you talk to Ms. Webster.”
Though Phillip wanted to ask her to stay, he had no standing to do so.
He could only say, trying to do right by her, “Naturally, this is your company’s internal matter, and I fully respect it. The specific point person is irrelevant to me, as long as the collaboration goes well. But, Mr. Livingston, you know me–I love making friends over drinks. Back then, Ms. Harrington impressed me by downing pine shots at one go. I wonder if Ms. Webster can match that.”
“I’m afraid I’m not as good as Ms. Harrington, but for your sake, I surely am willing to try my best.” Bianca picked up a glass gracefully.
Yet, before she could drink, Rodrick grabbed the glass. “She’s not feeling well. I’ll drink on her behalf.”
With that, he gulped down the wine before Phillip could say anything.
Phillip knew his allergy to alcohol. After all, Britney had always drunk for him during business gatherings.
After all these years of acquaintance, this was the first time he had seen Rodrick take a drink for someone else.
