Chapter 2
Chapter 2
ADELINE
My knees buckled the second I stepped outside. Somehow, I managed to drag myself to a secluded corner before I collapsed on the ground, letting the weight of everything hit me and then…
I thought I was alone, but the montent the tears stopped, a voice broke through the air. A voice so smooth, like rich dark chocolate, yet laced with danger, “Well that wasn’t what I expected.”
My head snapped up. Standing a few meters away was the man with the damning smile that now looked like it could ruin lives. My breath hitched, and before I could stop myself, I gasped.
This man, whoever he was, was sculpted to perfection. He had the kind of beauty that made one question the fairness of the Moon Goddess. I quickly snapped out of it when he took a step towards me.
My wolf rose to the surface and I shot to my feet, “If you step any closer, I’ll fight you, I warned, my voice shaking, though I prayed he couldn’t hear it. His smile deepened, and this time, it touched his eyes, though they were colder than ice. “And you just keep getting interesting by the moment. Relax, I’m not here to hurt you.”
I let out a bitter laugh, “Yeah? That’s what all serial killers say right before they strike. You’ve got ten seconds to tell me who you are and what you want
“Is that so?“His eyebrow rose in an extremely mocking way that had me grinding my teeth, “One. Two Three.”
“Stop counting, Adeline.”
Something happened at that moment, I don’t know if it was the way he called my name that made it vibrate through my entire being making me clamp my mouth shut or it was the extreme power that radiated off the command.
“I wasn’t going to accept the invitation at first,” he said casually, his eyes raking over me in a way that made me feel exposed, “because I usually consider your kind…” He paused, the insult dripping from his tongue. “…beneath me.”
The insult landed hard, and clenched my fists. “Who
o the hell do you think you are?”
He ignored me, of course, and took another step. “Let me be clear/Adeline. While I find you… intriguing… I do not tolerate disrespect.”
There was no menace in his voice, no threat. Yet I had never felt so intimidated. My heart pounded in my chest, and i swallowed hard. “What do you want from me?”
Again, he didn’t answer, just studied me with those freezing blue eyes. “I watched you when that ring slid onto your finger. I saw your eyes light up as if all your dreams had come true. And then, just as quickly, I saw them shatter. Tell me, why didn’t you break?”
ter rose to speak–he was right.
I opened my mouth, but no words came out. He had read me so perfectly, it was terrifying. That moment when my sister felt like my world had shattered.
“I wanted to. I don’t know why I didn’t,” I found myself admitting to a complete stranger, “My heart is breaking so much right now and I don’t know how I’m still standing”
A tear slipped down my cheek, and I hurried to wipe it away, not wanting him to see Just… curiosity. Like I was something different,
Something he hadn’t expected.
“You’re a perfect fit,” he murmured, almost to himself
e me cry. But when I looked up at him, there was no pity in his eyes.

What?
That damned smile returned, more seductive than before. “You know why I find your kind beneath me? Because they’re all the same. Boring. Predictable. Power–hungry, But you, Adeline, you’re… different. You’re a spark. One find myself in dire need of
I took a step back, panic rising in my chest. This was the part in the stories where the dumb girl gets kidnapped because she didn’t run when she had the
chance.
My mind screamed, Run, Addy, run.
As if reading my thoughts, he spoke again, his voice even. “I told you, I’m not here to hurt you. Stop thinking of ways to escape
How the hell did he know what I was thinking?
“And to answer your earlier question…” He paused, his gaze locking onto mine, “I think you’re worthy of an introduction. My name is Nicholas Knight.”
The ground felt like it was tilting beneath me at the same time my wolf froze.
The smile returned, this time it was darker, “Dy
ly the stunned expression on your face, you know exactly who I am.”“”“
I gulped again this time feeling the actual fear. Every werewolf knew who he was.
Nicholas Knight. The Lycan King. One of the most powerful man in the werewolf world.
Thad heard the stories–the rumors of his deadly wolf, the one said to be uncontrollable. The one that went feral, When Devon mentioned that he had extended an invitation to him, I laughed.
He never showed up for events like this.
Yet here he was. In the flesh. And even worse–I had been very disrespectful.
My heart raced, panic creeping in as I realized how I had been speaking to him. I wanted to fall to my knees and beg for forgiveness, but his voice cut through the air again, “Don’t apologize. As much as I’ve enjoyed this little exchange, I’ve reached my limit and to answer your other questions…
The words trailed off for a moment before he uttered his next words that truly stunned me, “I want you to be my Contracted Luna.”
“What?” The word slipped out before I could stop
I blinked, shaking my head, “You know what? Don’t answer that. I had enough for one day. My life just fell apart, so,” I raised my hands in mock surrender, “I’m going to walk away now. If you want to kill me, have at it.”
I turned on my heel, fully expecting him to lunge and tear my heart out, because that was who Nicholas Knight was–dangerous. Ruthless but instead, he stopped me with a simple sentence.
If you agree, help you make them all pay
I froze.
inality and promise lingering in the air, seeping into my head and resonating with my wolf. At that exact moment, i
I turned back to look at him, the finality heard my name.
My head turned in the direction to see Devon coming out of the hall, people filtering behind him and then I saw Rose come up behind him,
Staring at me like she had won and something in me snapped.
Make them pay. The words echoed in my head.
I looked back at the Lycan King knowing in the possible future I was going to regret it, “How long is this contract going to last?”
24145) Wed,

He smiled. That damning smile, “Two years.”
“You’ll make them suffer?” I barely even recognized the coldness in my voice but he nodded, “Every single person that has hurt you from the moment you book your first breath.”
My wolf growled low in my chest, unsure whether to warn me or urge me forward. I took a deep breath, the weight of my decision pressing down on me. “The answer is yes, be your Contracted Luna.”
Everything happened so fast after that. I saw Devon running to me at the same time Nicholas closed the space between us in two strides.
“What are you-
The question cut off the moment his finger touched my neck, brushing away my hair, sending actual jolts of electricity through me and he whispered, “One last show for the day.”
lididn’t register what was happening fast enough before he sank his teeth into my neck….
Marking me ..
