After two days of no sleep, the doctor finally led Alexander inside the emergency ward
The moment he stepped in, he saw Stephanie lying with her her face married with bruises and her arm bandaged.
Her once lively face was pale but as soon as she saw Alexander tears welled in her eyes.
“Alex…” she whispered, barely audible. “I didn’t think… you would come…..is sister Lavina b–back yet….ah!”
“Don’t speak!” Watching Stephanie in pain Alexander rushed to her side and gently took her in
his arms.
At that movement cops entered the ward without any prior notice.
“We are here to investigate Stephanie Winslet’s case.” That made Alexander frown.
“Officer thankyou but it was an accident-”
“No. Mr. Hamilton.” the officer interrupted, his tone serious “this was not a mere car accident. The CCTV footage shows a car deliberately chasing Miss Stephanie and after the hit, the driver vanished without a trace.
Since he was wearing a hoodie we couldn’t identify the suspect yet.”
Alexander tensed. “What are you saying?”
“We believe it was a targeted attempt. Someone is trying to kill Miss Stephanie.”
Stephanie gasped sharply, her fingers curling around the bedsheets. “No… why would anyone…”
“We found this at the car accident scene. Do any of you recognize this jewelry?”
“Lavina…” Alexander’s heart sank as he whispered.
His instinct kicked in to defend me but Stephanie beat him to it.
“No!” she said, her voice broken and parched “Absolutely not!”
Her tone surprised even the officer.
“No matter what happened between us…” she said, pressing her hand to her chest ” Sister Lavina would never do this. Never.”
The room fell into a hush.
She wiped her tears slowly, then added, almost too quietly, “She may have hated me. She may have once pushed me down the stairs in school. Or switched my medication that one time I fell sick before my exams. But she’d never… never kill me.”
The police officer scribbled in his notepad.
“Don’t worry we are not confirmed yet but Miss Lavina is still a suspect. But we will advise you to be careful for your life can still be at danger.” With that the officers left, leaving a fearful and crying Stephanie in Alexander’s arms.
Nobody saw the scheming smile on her face.
Alexander’s body trembled.

love. But now that she laid before him injured, afraid and carrying his child he had to make a decision and choose.
With that Alexander closed his eyes, his resolve strengthening.
“I’m sorry, Steph. I didn’t knew that you were already pregnant….I–I should have protected you. He touched her cheek gently.
“Don’t worry, I will make this right, I will make our child the legitimate heir.” he whisperec Stephanie’s face morphed into surprise as she asked innocently.
“B–But Alex what about sister? If you have to give our child legitimacy…that means you wil marry me then what about Lavina?” Alexander’s jaw clenched tightly.
He didn’t want things to go like this but now….
“Our child will be my heir Steph. We will get married tomorrow. You and the baby deserve tha much so no matter what I cannot leave you be.”
Stephanie let out a trembling breath, burying her face in his chest.
Victory.
And just like that, Alexander Hamilton announced his decision to the world.
By morning, the media houses were publishing one article after another on the matter and it was selling as hot cakes. Soon everyone knew it: Alexander Hamilton was marrying Stephanie
Winslet.
But as soon as Alexander’s father found out, he looked at his wife in displeasure before storming
off, his last words being:
“Alexander is not our only son, we have a fifteen year old daughter too….it’s time I prepare her fo being the heir for a bastard like Alexander is no blood of mine.”
Soon Alexander’s mother was storming into his study at the estate, her eyes blazing with rage.
And before he could rise from the chair, her palm cracked across his cheek…she slapped him
hard.
Alexander’s head snapped to the side.
“You arrogant fool! Even though Lavina was unable to give birth to a child, she was still the woman worthy to be the Madam of the Hamilton Enterprises but you chose such a female instead after throwing her away!”
“You announced your marriage to that Stephanie? Without consulting anyone?! The Winslet’s called this morning and said that they never thought that Stephanie could snatch the husband of her own sister!”
Alexander’s jaw clenched tight. “I don’t care! They all are bullying Steph!”
“Bullying? Have you seen what kind of a scheming woman she is? Your grandfather will bury you alive Alexander! Do you think he will let you ruin his legacy?!”
“What Legacy! Stephanie nearly died! And you know what? She is pregnant with my child.” “She tricked you!” his mother spat. “And you are too blinded with guilt to see it. You will be thrown out of Hamilton Enterprises.”
He shrugged. “Then I will build something else mother. Don’t forget that the Hamilton Steel

“YOU?! IT WAS BUILT BY LAVINA!!” Alexander’s mother screamed in rage.
“When your grandfather gave you three years to prove your worth to be selected as the heir to Hamilton Enterprises on your own merit, it was Lavina who chased investors for you, she whe worked for your company tirelessly and her who built the company not you!”
Silence engulfed the surroundings as Alexander felt his heart was in pain upon hearing my
name.
“I know but now Stephanie is with me. She loves me and will do everything for me. She is marrying me, not my money.”
That made his mother laugh coldly.
“I have been biased that since you are a son, you can handle the company better than your sister but now I see why your father disliked me for being partial towards you….no one will attend your wedding, Alexander.” she hissed. “Not even your own blood. You will be a Hamilton by name only.
And trust me, that girl you think is so innocent? She will leave you the second the headlines fade.”
But he didn’t respond.
Because Stephanie he knew was so innocent that he thought she would never betray him.
