Chapter 9
“Have you ever wondered why the Gaskal family decided to adopt me?”
I was caught off guard by her sudden question.
All I knew was that Melisa had been taken in by Henry and Maria from a remote mountain village when she was about ten years old and raised as their own child.
Melisa grinned, her teeth marked with blood.
“Benson visited that village too. I intentionally broke my leg and latched onto him. He felt sorry for me and pleaded with his parents to bring me back with them.”
She intentionally raised her voice, shouting at Benson, “Did you hear that, fool? I did it on purpose!”
Benson bellowed in anger, but he was restrained and could only glare at
Melisa with hatred.
Then she unveiled an even more chilling truth.
“For years, I did everything to marry Benson, but his parents were too concerned about their reputation to approve.
“Ever wonder why they finally gave in and made you his concubine while granting me the position of primary wife?”
She suddenly placed a hand on her stomach, a sinister smirk on her face. “Because I had the upper hand.”
So that’s what was going on!

The mystery of why Henry and Maria supported Benson in his distorted “affection” for his adopted sister finally made sense.
It was all about the child.
My heart pounded as I tried to reason with her. “If that’s true, shouldn’t your family of three focus on building a life together? Why would you…
Melisa gave me a significant look and then shifted her gaze back to Benson.
Her voice was soft, but the triumph and mockery were unmistakable.
“Because Benson isn’t the father of this child at all.”
I watched as Benson’s pupils shrank, and veins stood out on his forehead. “You tricked me, you witch!”
He exploded with a terrifying burst of strength, knocking aside two security guards before charging at Melisa.
In the distance, the sound of sirens grew louder.
I had just let out a sigh of relief when, out of nowhere, Benson drew a sharp knife.
My heart jumped into my throat, and I instinctively shouted, “No!”
Without pause, the blade plunged into Melisa’s lower abdomen.
The gruesome scene seemed to halt time.
In a flash, Melisa was covered in blood, her body going limp.
I stood frozen, the gruesome scene of my past life’s murderer stabbing me replaying in my mind, slowly merging with the sight of Benson advancing toward me with a bloody knife.

Suddenly, a shadow darted before my eyes, tackling Benson to the ground
Bodyguards dressed in black rushed over to restrain him.
Oliver, who had knocked Benson away, knelt in front of me, breathing heavily. “Bailey, are you alright?”
I clung to him, tears streaming down my face.
This time, the nightmare hadn’t come true. Someone who genuinely loved me had saved me.

Three months later, the court delivered its initial verdict in Benson’s
murder case.
It was death penalty.
I engaged top lawyers to appeal, seeking to have his sentence reduced to life imprisonment.
In my previous life, he devastated my entire family–allowing him to die swiftly would be too lenient.✨
The harshest punishment is for him to endure endless suffering, unable to truly live or die.
On my wedding day to Oliver, Benson’s sentence was changed to life imprisonment.
I linked arms with my father and joyfully walked toward my tall, handsome groom.
This time, it’s genuinely behind me.
