Chapter 14
The desperation in Knox’s eyes gradually faded, returning to his usual composed demeanor.
He had nearly been fooled, but fortunately, he spotted the inconsistency.
Aria’s right ring finger had been injured before, with a fracture in the middle knuckle. While the corpse wore Aria’s
ring, the finger was completely intact–clearly not hers.
Having confirmed the body wasn’t Aria, Knox naturally wouldn’t allow himself to lose composure again.
“Dad, I don’t understand why you’d use a fake body to trick me, but let me be clear: I will never marry into the
Harrison family. In this lifetime, I have and will only have one wife–Aria.”
O
“Even if you won’t tell me where she is, I will find her.”
Watching his son walk away, Dominic sighed heavily.
Early the next morning, a doctor called to say Mila was threatening suicide at the hospital.
By the time Knox arrived, she had maneuvered her wheelchair onto the hospital’s roof.
Perhaps because of the emotional rollercoaster he’d experienced the day before, Knox felt only exhaustion at the
sight.
Nevertheless, he rescued her.
Mila, pale–faced, repeatedly expressed her despair.
But Knox merely stared at her face in silence–not similar at all.
Aria was strong–willed and stubborn, never showing this kind of vulnerability. Her eyes were always fierce, carrying a never–say–die spirit that made his heart race whenever he saw them.
Mila and Aria couldn’t be more different.
But unfortunately, he’d realized too late. Only after she left did he fully awaken.
“Knox, I heard Aria is dead,” Mila suddenly grabbed his hand.
Though she concealed it well, Knox detected a flash of delight in her eyes, instantly chilling his expression.
“What? Are you happy she’s dead?”
After what Aria had done to her, of course Mila was thrilled to hear of her enemy’s demise.

Unaware of Knox’s shift in mood, she eagerly continued, “Knox, I know you were married for eight years, and her sudden death must be hard to accept. But we can’t bring back the dead–those of us still living need to move forward,
right?”
Knox remained silent, which Mila interpreted as agreement. Thinking of her resemblance to Aria, she grew more
confident.
Mila suddenly threw herself into Knox’s arms, her voice dripping with sincerity. “Knox, I know you never forgot me all these years, and neither did I! Now that Aria’s gone, there’s nothing standing between us. From now on, we can be together properly, okay?”
She was so caught up in her fantasy that she missed Knox’s increasingly disturbed expression.
“Standing between us?” Knox was practically sneering now.
“Mila, how did I never see this side of you before? It’s truly… eye–opening.”
Her loving façade now nauseated him. A strange sense of absurdity washed over him, as if after all these years, he had never truly seen or understood the person standing before him.
From the moment Mila saved him from the fire, Knox had been infatuated with her.
She was barely of age when they got together, but when the Rivera family hit trouble and Knox was sent abroad, Mila suddenly broke up with him during his darkest hour.
He had begged and pleaded, but she refused to stay. Less than six months later, she was engaged to a wealthy heir.
Until three months ago, Mila suddenly returned, desperately explaining she had broken up with him under duress–her mother had threatened suicide, leaving her no choice but to comply. She added that she was now terminally ill and wanted to see him one last time before she died.
Knox had believed her.
Looking back, her story was riddled with holes. He prided himself on his intelligence, yet Mila had him completely fooled, causing him to repeatedly hurt the woman he truly loved.
Naturally suspicious and perceptive, Knox had been too preoccupied with recent upheavals to investigate Mila’s fake illness. But now her behavior raised further suspicions. Had she lied about other things too?
With this thought, Knox’s gaze turned scrutinizing.
Noticing his look, Mila finally sensed something was wrong.
She gripped Knox’s hand tighter, her voice trembling.
“Knox, you’re not… disgusted with me, right?”
“But I’m a victim too! Aria did this to me! Knox, you can’t reject me! If even you turn away, I don’t know why I

should go on living…”
She grew increasingly emotional as she spoke, eventually breaking down into uncontrollable sobs.
In the past, Knox might have felt compassion, but now her display only irritated him.
He silently withdrew his hand.
“You’re tired. Get some rest.”
Without another word, he left.
Once outside, he immediately called his housekeeper.
“Have Mila investigated. Be thorough.”
